Post Post Test-Drive Comments!

Hi, I just got back from the test drive. Boy that was fun. All I have to say is,"Wow, you can get to 100 mph in no time at all!"

Anyway, one thing I did notice was the incredibly loud wind-noise during my driving. The sales people weren't there tonight, but the service manager said that it was due to the way the outside side mirrors were placed or something like that.

This was actually one of my biggest hang-ups, because my 96 Accord is more quiet than the TL.

Any comments? Thoughts?

That doesn't even make sense. The outside mirrors were designed to CUT wind noise, not HEIGHTEN it.

Interesting. Actually I don't really hear the wind noise around the mirror area of my TL-S. But, when I test drove the 2000 TL last year, and the 2001 TL earlier this year, I could definitely hear it. In my opinion, the re-designed mirrors on the 02 TL-S really reduced the wind noise.

Depending on what the wind direction is -- i either hear a lot of wind noise, or none at all from the driver's side mirror. It's very clear that it's coming from the mirror when you roll your window down all the way and drive (we've been gettin' some 60 degree days that have made this possible).

Cool

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about little wind noises their car makes. TURN ON YOUR RADIO AND YOU CAN'T HEAR ANY LITTLE NOISES.

Hey I just took one for a test drive during my lunch period along with a fellow TL owner here at work.

I can say that I can feel the accerlation a whole lot more. But Damn! They sure mark those babies up!!
I took several hard turns and stops, and the suspension is really nice.

As for the mirrors, I didn't notice any wind noise, but I did notice how they are a different shape, just a bit more square looking for sure. Also, are those mirrors tinted? It seems like they have this blueish color to them.

I sure wish I knew about it coming out before I got mine.

On a side note, talked to the sales guy and he is hearing that the RSX might come out in July in case anyone is interested.

Hey kevs, are you sure it wasn't the AC or maybe a window wasn't closed all the way?

I've had my TL-S for just over a week now and I do love it. As far as the wind noise people have been complaining about, I would have to agree. I generally have the stereo loud enough so it's usually a moot point. But at 80 and over with the stereo low, the wind noise seems to be quite pronounced. I used to drive a GS-R. Since the engine was so loud, I never noticed wind noise on her before. Maybe since the TL-S' engine is so quiet, it makes the wind noise that much more noticeable.
Nevertheless, the 2002 side mirrors are supposedly redesigned to lessen wind noise. Since I've never been in a 2001 or earlier TL, I have nothing to compare it with. Anyone out there driven both 2002 and 2001 and can comment on the associated wind noise?
Either way, I love my TL-S!!

Cool

I test drove a 2001tl and a 2002tls last week, and my wife and I both thought the 2002 was slightly quieter for wind noise.

We are taking delivery of a Naples Gold/Parchment 2002 tls on May 4th!

Quite a change ride-wise and noise-wise from the Integra huh? I was really getting sick of the stiff ride and I hated driving for more than 30 minutes on the highway because the engine drone really started to annoy me. Maybe it's because I'm getting old...

I've noticed a little wind noise over 70 or so. However, when there was a cross-wind I was driving through, there was a significant increase in noise.

I tried today to listen carefully, as everyone seems to be mentioning the noise. With tunes off, the wind noise is there if you listen for it, but I do not think that it is that bad. Acuraboy may be right, the car is so quite that the wind noise becomes more pronounced.

Either way, it's not that big a deal to me..

JB,

You might be waiting longer than May 4th for your car....Naples Gold is not available on the TL Type S.

In Canada Type S exterior color options are white, black, silver, blue & gold. I have driven a Naples Gold TLS, with parchment interior.

Some other differences; Navi option is not available, and prices translated into US$ make the TLS even better value.

Jb,

Sorry, didn't realize they had different color availability in Canada. I'm glad to know that some goofy dealer wasn't pulling your leg.

You people.... Wind noise! Ha! At 80mph my M3 will roar so loudly (in 5th gear!), that wind noise and road noise become a non-issue, and the stereo has to work extra-hard . Oh well, I'll be joining the TL-S crowd soon, and will probably come back here to complain about the wind noise from the mirror. I'm ashamed of myself already

test drove a new tl-s yesterday and I must say I loved it!!!!!! REALLY LOVED IT! I was deciding between the Lexus ES300, IS300, and Maxima SE and the BMW.. all of which I've driven. While.. I really enjoyed the IS300, the acceleration lacks compared to the tl-s..plus there is much more room in the TL than the type-s. Maybe I'm so impressed because the car I've been driving is a toyota corolla but I have to say..i am convinced! TL-S is the only car for me!
