Possible Tranny failure question reguarding coverage...
Hello all,
I have a question reguarding the failing transmissions on the second gen TL's. I recently purchased a 2000 TL with a 140,000 miles. Car runs great except i do notice slippage going into 3rd gear and have also had it get stuck and not shift out of third unless i switched to the manual shifting. I have read though the forums and this definitly sounds like a failing tranny to me, i would like your opinions and answer a few questions.
- Is there a way to find out if the tranny has already been replaced and if so how long ago?
- Do my signs point to a failing tranny and if so how long should i expect?
- Is my milage to high to be covered under the warrenty?
- What is the highest milage car to have the tranny replaced for free under warrenty?
I am sure i will have some more questions but this should be good for now. Thanks for all who read and post to this thread and for the help, this forum has a ton of helpful info.

You can call your local dealer or Acura's national customer care group. If the transmission was replaced at an Acura dealership they should have records for that.

It sounds like it's failing and there's no telling when it could fail altogether. I would have it checked out ASAP.
- Is my mileage to high to be covered under the warrenty?
Maybe. But it won't hurt to ask.

I don't know but there are been many reports of "out-of-warranty" coverage in the Tranny Failure Thread:

Spend some time reading that thread and take some notes. Let us know what's the highest mileage car you could find.
Also, be aware that a 2000 TL may also have reached the 7 year + 9 month limit on the extended warranty. Call Acura and ask for your car's original in-service date. Add 7 years and 9 months to that date and see when it will, or did, occur.

The warranty extension is to 7 years 9 months or 109,000 miles, whichever comes first. However many transmissions are covered as a "Goodwill" gesture by acura. The customer must call acura customer service and ask for this consideration.
