I was just at my local Acura dealership getting my TL oil changed and the service guy there told me that Acura will be comming out with a 6spd. TL-S. Anyone else hear this rumour?

 

I heard that too, as well as that I think motorweek had a report on that as well...

I wonder if they will modify the parking brake to hand operated.

How would you know? They are going to used the same trany that the RSX comes with. I'm sure they will put it on both. Think for a second, both TL and CL have a type S versions, so why would they offer it on the CL and not the TL.

No 6 speed CL for 2002. Confirmed by quite a few people, including Wayne from Park Ave Acura.

Great thank you Acura! I bust my ass when the acura TL came out in 99 i finally bought it in 2000. And a few months later a rumor came out that a Type S is going to come out and it did.. Now a 6 speed? Man i think im just going to sell my Arm and LEG this time.. or Sell my Organs and just call it quits and get a ASTON MARTIN LOL!

I heard that they were going to do the 6 speed for sure for 2003 and i was talking to this guy at miami acura and he said he had also heard somthing like that.

I doubt the six speed will come out in the current TL model. Acura/Honda has a long history of a four year product life cycle (except of course the Integra, but they didn't know what to do with it as they moved to alpha numeric model names). The current body came out in '99, making a new model due in 2003. Acura would have to modify the parking break taking it from the floor to the center console. This would require to much re-work of the dash and center console. Therefore, I think the six speed will not come out until the next model. Just my two cents....

The could leave the e-brake on the floor. They don't have to move it to the center console, but it will suck if they did.

I don't remember out of my head, but I have seen them before. My point was that they Don't have to. Of course it will be ridiculous to leave it there . My loaner is a automatic escort with e-brake on the center console....I was having so much fun last night driving it .

Acura's had 6-speed manual transmissions in the past (the Legend GS Sedan and LS Coupe) so they know how to make them in the first place. It's not rocket science to begin with. Just shaddup and go play with your CF door panel trim..

I love driving loaner cars. Especially light weight ones with emergency brakes in the center console. Perfect opportunity to practice my bootlegger move. I don't think I've ever returned a loaner without a bald set of rear tires. Back to the issue though, if they left the e-brake on the floor, it sure would be crowded down there with e-brake, clutch, brake, and accelerator!

Yeah, I'm sure. They have to put it on the center console, I don't think it would be that much work anyways. I took the whole center console out once and all they have to do is redisign the cup holder and make space for the e-brake. After the shifter where there is a line, after that the hold thing comes out in one piece. Plus you could see the cables going to the back from the floor e-brake. so if they redisign that part, they cables are already there, so just plug and play .....we should have it for the 03'TL type S.....heheheheh

The 6-speed manual, when it arrives, will NOT be the same unit of the RSX. The transmission bellhousings are not the same size/shape and therefore they wouldn't bolt up. Not to mention that the engine of the RSX requires much shorter gearing than would be feasible for use in the CL-S/TL-S.

Going on the words of Dick Colliver, he said a 6-speed is coming to the CL-S. I've read that this could very well trickle down to the TL-S as well since the engineering, to use their words, would be "minimal". I don't know where the e-brake would be located, but I'd like to think they'd put a hand-operated lever in the center console... having 4 pedals down there would make it very tight for my size 16 hoofs.

Only time will tell if any of this actually materializes, but I'm hoping it will. My lease is up in early 2003 so I don't mind if they wait another year before actually going ahead with it
