sometimes when im on the road and i see a litle old lady driving her saturn or whatever, only 6 inches form the wheel, it really scares me.... if that bag deploys, shes dead. or close to it.

In theroy, they say you should be as far away fromt he bag as you can be comfortable in the seat with, and the "tilt" of the wheel should line up with your shoulder line.

Im really short, my wheel is all the way down, and im barley at shoulder line... but i lean back in the seat pretty far (not trying to be a baller, just more comfortable that way... like tipping in your chair in high school...) so im safe... hell if i could disable the damn airbag, i would.... dont trust them. my seatbelt is all i trust...

yea but i also thought that havin it low may not be good cause if u trapped you may have a tough time gettin out cause it limits ur leg room under the wheel but who knows givin the situation air bags i think are more trouble then they r worth...and they bang u up pretty good but i guess can save ur life!!!!

Forgive me, but I have to ask. Does the TL have airbags that only stay inflated for a few seconds after the deployment, or stay inflated forever?

The reason I ask, my mom crashed my Tahoe a couple years ago, and the air bags deployed, but they had holes in them to make 'em go flat after a few seconds of deployment. This way, it doesn't get in your way or suffocate you. But I don't know what kind of airbags my TL-S has, and I don't want to find out the way my mom did.

well the air bags in the 02-03 TL's are dual stage, so while they do have holes in them, and they do deflate quite quickly, if you get hit again after the first collision, they can go off a second time. suprise!!!! more chemical burns!!

To my knowledge, dual stage airbags means they can go off at two different forces (depending on the severity of the impact).

Once an airbag goes off, it will never function again, and needs to be replaced.

yes dual stage is just the rate that it comes out. once out they wont go off again, and they deflate rather quickly
