a supercharger with all the accessories will cost you around 7500$ (canadian).

a 3.5L conversion will cost you about the same, but it depends a lot on labor price.

the price also depends on the "level" of conversion/SC you want to do... for example, you can get a High boost pulley for your SC. Or you can get custom forged pistons and forged or shot-pinged rods for your 3.5...

but a basic conversion will cost about the same as a basic SC install.

do a 3.5 conversion. personally, i think having that kind of power from an "all motor" combo is pretty damn cool. plus with headers, intake, exhaust you may be making as much power as a s/c. either way though i would anticipate a having to purchase an upgraded transmission.

i would rather beef up the engine first then slap a blower on it, but thats only my opinion considering i come from a line of cars that could never handle a blower on a stock engine.

the tl can handle the blower just fine, its the tranny id be most worried about.

for ease id do the SC, for originality and great engine id do the 3.5

im personally going to try a custom SC (centrafugal) this summer (little hint to those who are paying attention)

very true this engine can handle a blower in stock form, although i would personally still be inclined to do the 3.5 conversion first since it's more rare. you would have more bragging rights. although the blower is a simple morning bolt-on.

if you could fashion a roots-type blower you may be better off. although the cost of doing this from scratch for us would be insane. too bad we can't copy off a grand prix or mustang or anything.

i dunno...many cars now are as fast and even faster then our TL's so unless u plan on keeping the TL till it dies, I'd leave it. If u really want to speedy it up, Id do 3.5 conversion and a blower after that...more satisfaction in the long run even tho it will take a longer time, but it will be tight.

if he has the 3.5 conversion done by a reputable shop (or a dealer like rick case) it would be like getting a new engine. he should easily be able to take it to 250k miles or more, provided it's broken in properly.

it's definitely crazy how every crap car out there is mathing the type-s' power now. even the 2006 eclipse is rated at 260hp/260tq. if we are interested in keeping up it will take more than a set of headers now. soon even the accord will outrun the TL-S. still makes me curious where the hp numbers will stop for front wheel drive cars.

thats teh hard part with the roots style would be finding the way to extent the input shaft (the part the belt ataches to)and making the out put side of the SC. a centrafugal is a easy design and the input shaft could be made relitavily easy, and the size is alot smaller. ill be toying with my friends he has on his maxima (taking off to lend to me for desgn) this summer
