Question Please Help 99TL

Just replaced my starter at the dealer and the also replaced my ignition recalls. They wanted to change my sparks and clean my ECG (?). Can a place like pep boys or someother place do as good of a job as the dealer?

They said it idles low is that the plugs like they are saying?

dont think you have to pay extra for dealer work...first of all, you can replace your spark plugs yourself very easy and it is the EGR valve they are talking about cleaning. there are instructions on this site on how to clean out your EGR also - I did it on my '99TL and it helped the idle very much.

it doesnt "require" it - though it would help to get the part of the port in the lower manafold 100% clean. I just cleaned out the upper intake manafold port and got as much build up as I could out of the lower part...you can spray that carbon cleaner on the port and let it sit a while then suck it out with a shop vac. that cleaned mine out nearly good as new.

you can clean the EGR port very easy, but if your actual EGR valve goes out, I believe you have to get a new one. The most common problem is the EGR port gets clogged with carbon and the valve is just fine, so if you take off the intake manafold, you will see a small port on the driver side of the manafold and it will be all clogged up - mine was. Clean that out and it will work fine
