Unhappy Please help!

Hi Everybody,

I would appreciate your help! I have 2000, 3.2TL with 46K on it and love it! But recently I started hearing some whistling noise on the top of normal engine sound, especially while accelerating through the lower gears. Sounds a little like as if the car had a turbine. Was told by the dealer that that’s a throttle plate. Dealer agreed to replace it under warranty. While driving dealer’s car (same 3.2TL with 42K) noticed the same noise, although much less pronounced. After replacement of the throttle plate improvement is marginal, if any. Also noticed that the transmission fluid is about 3/8” above top level mark. Are they trying to cover problem with the transmission? Has anybody had the same problem? Other than the noise (very annoying!) the car seems fine.
Thank you!

Are you checking the transmission fluid when the engine is hot or cold? It will make a difference. The throttle plate fix sounds a little lame. If it's not making the noise while revving the engine in park, then the engagement of the tranmission would make me worry. Also I would check for a vacuum leak... sometimes it will cause a whinning pitch.

Good luck.

I checked transmission with the engine hot (that's what manual reads). And it does make noise while revving in park. One more thing - car idles at 750 - 770 rpm. Is it normal? Thank you for response!

Check out this site.

Click on "whistles." Could be the alternator or a loose serpentine belt. Sounds like the tranny is o.k. if it's doing it in park.

As far as the rpms, that sounds about right after the car is warmed-up.

Thank you 2ONPAR5! I have already talked to the dealer and set an appointment for March 19. I'll let everybody know the results. If anybody can come up with some other ideas, they would be greatly appreciated!
