Please Contact Navteq!!!!!!!!

Last night my friend fainted in my car and I had to get her to the hospital. Anyway, i selected the nearest hospital from the navi list choices. Anway, when i reached the destination, there was no hospital, just forest. I had to resort to calling one of my best friend and have him give me directions to a hospital near by from where I was. I reached the hospital and when I got there, I was very muych relived to hear that she was going to be okay. But a shocker i got was that if i brought her 5 minuted later, she would have died in my TL on the way there. I urge you to call Navteq for the sake of you kids, you husband, your wife, your friends, anyone that you love or care about because one day, you might have to rely on the nav to get you to the hospital and behold, it may not be there.

For those who are asking why didn't you call 911, I did, and what they said was that first, they didn't have as accurate location on me after i gave them an intersection, the location of a few shops next to me and the phone number of one of the shops. As well, they said that it would take atleast 10 minutes to get there. My friend was unconsious at this point and barely breathing. That is when i called my friend, and drove almost 95MPH in local residence where the limit was 25.

Also I was in the rental that i have that had a 3.60 Navi disk, which by apline, is the latest. So Please contact them so we can have more of an effect on them.

For those wondering about my friend, she is okay now resting at home. She was discharged at 3 AM today from florida hospital near Ustis.

I know going 95 in a 25 was dangerous, but she had a heart attack for cirying out loud. Just please send them a message to halp save a life one day.

While this situation was serious, something tells me no GPS system was designed to be used in an emergency like this.

I know but the data for serious things such as hospitals and police stations should be accurate in the event of emergencies.

I agree 100%.I don't give a crap if the burger shack that I am trying to get to is now a parking lot but a hospital no longer existing and still being in the directory, that is a bunch of crap.

At the very least the craptacular navi systems in cars these days need to not worry about where the next starbucks is being built, but where the emergency services are located and keep that database up to date.

Kinda sad they charge people for information that for the most part is not only a "run around" way of getting somewhere, but not to mention an out of date "run around" way of getting there.

I'm glad your friend is ok.

I agree. Navteq should not only obtain the addresses of every hospital firehouse and police station in the US, but also verify every one. My gosh, whatever did people do before navigation devices?

Maybe instead of verifying Navteq information, you might try actually learning where the hospital, firehouse and police stations are the old fashioned way. Drive there.

And how are they supposed to get this data to you? Ship you a DVD every time any emergency service changes location across the US? How moronic.

I missed the part where they forced you to buy the navi. If you don't like it, don't use it and buy a paper map.

the other question is did you actually follow the correct directions? or did you maybe in your rush miss a turn?

i'm glad to hear ur friend is ok.. however endangering other lives to save another is not acceptable.... you may have driven at 95mph on a 25mph knowing its an emergency but other ppl will have no clue, even emergency vechicles use lights/horns to let other cars know that they are racing towards a destination.... perhaps by you risking yourself a police ticket by honking your horn might've been cool.. but ya.. be careful..

plus i race.. don't get me wrongb ut 95 on a 25 is very dangerous... if it was 210 on a 80.. i wouldn't say much since the road is built for a higher speed.

and just out of topic and no offense to the thread creator... this story reminds me of those retarded movies i see nowadays where they risk and sometimes kill so many other bystanders just to save the 'main' hero... .. eg. speed , i'm sure the bus crashing into all those cars probably killed many lives.... there are many more but dont' want to go out of topic.. i always make fun of those movies.

yes, i did follow the directions it gave. Also i speeded carefully, speeding when no one else was around, slowing down really quickly when needed to make a turn, yeilding when going in intersections, etc. I got bitched at in the 3rd Gen forums about speeding, but if i hadn't sped, she would have died since her pulse was 32 for gods sake. And no offense taken, acutally gave me a chuckle becuase of how you related it.
