Planning on a Type S, yay!

LOL, I am getting a new job in a month or so and decided with my fatter pay check coming I needed a nicer car.

I have had my current car (1998 Ford Zx2) which has served me well, especially with the beating I gave it during my highschool years, LOL. Fun little car, dropped 1.7 inches and has 17's and hits 15.8 in the quarter bone stock. Two harsh on the ride for me now days though so here I come acura ;p

I plan on babying whatever I buy since the job will be giving me a 2001 Ford Ranger V6 Edge as a company vehicle.

Anyways, I am deciding between an F-150 Lightning, or a CL/TL type S.

The only reason I'd go with the Lightning is of the whole Type S painting issue isn't resolved =/

The paint issue really really concerns me though and when I go to the dealer, this is what I plan on doing. I will make it known that I know about the paint issue the day I go to the dealer. I will make certain that they state (in writing) they will repaint and/or fix any paint problems related to this particular issue to my satisfaction.

If they do not agree then I'll tellem, 'seeya' and go buy my Lightning.

Either way I am happy but I'd REALLY like to get a Type S, so if they can guarantee they'll take care of paint probs like this then I'll buy one.

I am in Central California (Stokton -- near Sacramento). I have been offered invoice on CL type S's and even $500 below invoice at some dealerships. On the other hand, the dealers haven't really budged on TL prices, i assume they are more popular. I am buying the car for comfort, speed and looks but I like the looks on both models so I'll go with price on this one.

Any reccomendations on dealerships in the Central/Nocal area?

(again, Stockton, Sacramento, Modesto, Tracy areas)?

Thanks!

I hope to be a proud TL/CL owner in a few months if and when this paint issue is resolved

(If not, the lightning has 380 HP and it'll do just fine)

I guess I have the first bunch of TLS but I never have any problems with my paint. But I'm sure warrenties would cover it should there be a problem...
anyway, good luck car hunting...

Want me to meet you at the Ford dealership? Nothing personal, but you tell any salesman that and he'll tell you where you can buy a car.

It's not like there are TLS lining the lots of car dealerships. They are selling quite well. Maybe not the same for CLS. Best of luck.

i might be wrong, but i think that the paint issue is a little bit magnified on this website since peole with paint issues are the only ones that post about their problems. your probably not gonna see people post threads about how good their paint is on their TL. just my 2 cents.

NSXNEXT:

Not as if I'd say em in those exact words, lol.

But there is no need for me to sugar coat anything on this site right?

I like that TL/CL S but The Lightning is just as exclusive if not more so, so I don't have a problem in that area.

But I'd like to make sure the dealership knows I know about certain people having paint problems. Any Dealership that can't take the fact that I have knowledge about these things (assuming i am polite about that knowledge) does not deserve my business.

So I'd like to know what the dealerships policy would be on that particular iuuse IF it did arise. I don't wanna buy my brand new car and *hope* it doesn't have paint problems, I want piece of mind.

(Which is why I stay away from american brands unless they are limited production like the lightning/etc)

Oh, and yes i do think the paint subject is magnified here, BUT there truly are enough people here to at least prove a certain batch of TL s's (perhaps more, perhaps less) have a severe paint finish problem.

I still want one though damnit!!!!!!!!!

Interesting choice of vehicles. I understand your limited edition thoughts, but pickup to coupe to sedan. Big variance there. well I guess they're all quick.

I'm sure if you spent some time on the Ford Lightning forum, if one exists you'd hear them b!tch too.

Everyone wants the perfect vehicle. It'll never happen.

BTW I absolutely love my TL. Once you mod it a bit, you'll never stop.

Question

Outer Body Rust-through - 5 year/unlimited-mile limited warranty

I know it's a big variance nsxnext hehe but that makes it fun

Nah I mean, I will be doing well, but not so well that I can buy a $32,000 car and have the paint fall off. I am not bashing the car, i love it, i test drove one and that's why I want one so bad.But the day my baby started peeling (if it did) I would die

I dunno, maybe just paranoid, but what if?

The paint will do well ips are keep bra's off your car wax and buff two times a year (every six months). Wash its every other day. And the car will be fine you'll enjoy it.

Not sure what you mean about the well known paint problem. Mine is perfect and a couple of guys that I know who have TLS's (both Black) never mentioned a paint problem to me. If you do get one that has any sort of problem the warranty would surely cover it.

I will say this, I am not as happy with this cars QUALITY compared to several Fords I have owned. NEVER have I purchased a car that had rattles in the first 3500 miles. My $31000 ACURA does though!!! My '91 Accord was built WAY better than this car....In fact I am seriously considering putting this piece of trash up for sale.. Face the facts, this is another piece of American manufactured embarassment...... I would look at some other cars or buy the Lightning... It would be faster and easier to mod...

Well excuse me, I guess because I own a ford I have no place talking about quality eh?

I mean being that I was 16 when I bought it it was all that I could afford, but somehow that isn't good enough eh?

I'll be sure to buy an acura next time I am only taking home $1000 a month and then revel in the luxury, for it would be what I live in.

tisk tisk for you.

Anyhow, still need to test drive the CL/TL one more time each and try a Lightning as well. I like those GTP's as well, but...th3e fact that it's a pontiac tells me to stay away

CL currently is the front runner as it will be easier to get a lower price on.

Anyone know of some good dealerships in the Northern Cali area (Sacramento/etc)?
