I almost bought my wife an E320 but MB dealer only offered $11K for her 98 Accord V6 Coupe EX with only 33K miles...they suck!!!! The other option was the Audi A6 4.2 or the 540iA. She thinks the Audi is BUTT uggly so that went out the window. Next we drive up to the Beemer dealer and there it is, a Black 540iA just waiting to be taken home. I tried to convince my wife to get the 540i Sport but because of traffic around here she said no way, plus "it's my car and I'm the one that's going to drive it". Good point. Bought the car and drove home. Oh, the BMW dealer gave us $14K for the POS Honda. Thank God we finally got out of the Honda.

First time I ever driven an automatic 540i. Not quite as sporty as the 6spd. but a great woman car shall we say. I think most of you know how I feel about the 540i's so I won't start bragging and shit. No need to take pics I guess since it ain't the 6spd version.

Black with Tan leather. Couln't get the Sports package cuz they had none on the lot. They told me the 540's 6spd, or sports package is usaully factory order. Plus my woman didn't want a pimped out car. She said we already have a pimp in the family we don't need two. At least she recognized my baby is "Big pimpin'..."

Ed you're right, it does have balls. It's pretty fast. All night my wife ketp asking me "is my Beemer faster than your Acura?"...Beeatch!

I went to the dealer and there is still a 2 month wait on the 540. The updated one looks really nice though, with the one piece headlights and clear tails. Also, the m5 was selling for 95K which is a total rip.

 

DAMN!!! Nice car!! My friend has a silver w/ black interior...it's a damn nice car! You gonna do anything to it? Get a Dinan Stage II chip upgrade It, uh, gets it better fuel economy!

Nah, my wife will freak if I spent any more $ on mods. I know Beemer mods cost a lot more than our TL mods. Dinan stuff is too expensive. My friend's 540i 6spd. has stage 1 and is in the process of stage 2. Over $20K...you got to be crazy. Can you say "should have bought an M5".

Rice, I agree, $95K is a total rip. The dealer I bought my, well, the wife's 540 had 3 M5's at sticker.

I was about to say "traitor!" but...jealous!!!! congrats!

 

Frankly, I'm not sure anymore. I'm still scheduled to ge mine in July-August time frame. The dealer called me early this week and asked if I wanted one now and I told them no. Big factor has to do with the fact that the stock market is doing pretty shitty now and some of the CLK55 proceeds were going to come from stocks. Also, now that BMW dealers around here have a few M5's I'm thinking that car this coming summer. Not sure though, got my fingers crossed that my Nortel stocks will rebound.

Rice - DC area has CLK55 and M5's at sticker. Easy to find around here.

Don - I didn't get the 2001, they had none. I had to get a "new" 2000 and I paid $50,680 out the door. I has heated seats, premium sound, cd changer, and extended warranty cuz you never know what the BMW may decide to do around 40K miles

NBP - Yes at first, but I accepted the fact the her car is faster than mine and that's the bottom line. I love my TL, total different animal, the 540 is a beast on the highway. Man, from 60+ that thing is a rocket all the way up to 130. Yes, I know, my wife wanted to kick my ass since I "abused" her car. Man, I paid for the shit...women!

The Sports Package would have cost an additional $4K or so. My wife didn't really care about that. I don't think I'll ever find out if my car can keep up with her 540i cuz I know she won't do it! Phi, are you crazy? She won't let me near her car as I was that way with her about my TL (cuz my mods) and she's paying me back I guess. Yes, I'm a Pre-Sales Engineer. Oh, Phi I think I'm going back to Lucent! My former manager is back from South Africa and wants to see me for a SE Manager role. If things work out, I'd like to talk to you and Eric about an SE role in the Mid-Atlantic region. Give me a buzz!

whats power brakein?

 

Powerbraking means you press your brake into the carpet with your left foot, as hard as you need to press the clutch on a GM F-body, while you give the car some gas with your left, you can build some pretty good revs this way, and give your torque converter quite a workout. This helps you launch becuase you start at higher revs, it's similar to slipping out a clutch, depends on the car, it can feel like you dumped the clutch sometimes....anyhow, it's not terribly good for the car, but that's what rental cars are for...

Speaking of which, it's fun to put the car in neutral, rev to about 6K, and drop it into drive....err, not that anyone would do that..
