Unhappy performance

I HAVE A 2002 TL-S WITH 21K MILES. I AM EXPERIENCING DELAYED ACCELERATION FROM THE LINE AND JUST AN OVERALL DECREASE IN ACCELERATION. MY FRIEND'S 2000 TL BURNT ME FROM THE LINE T W I C E !! (I AM VERY EMBARASSED) . ANY THOUGHTS?

Push the gas pedal closer to the floor.

I have 21k on my TLS too and I feel that my car is getting slower, but it is all in the head. Probably because you are use to the power of the car. Press the gas harder, I assure you that performance didn't decrease.

It's probably you, not the car. I noted the same effect, you get used to the power. I swapped cars with my wife and drove a Saab 9-3 for a month, back to the TL/S - WOW.

and i notice a small but very annoying...chirping noise when idle...
it's bearly noticeable but it's annoying sometime... like when i accelarate it chirps faster...chirp chirp chirp chirp...anybody know where that's coming from?....

Question

Are you properly maintaining the car? Regular oil changes with the recommended oil (5w20), using premium gas, etc..... that type of stuff will have an effect on performance.

Do you have any added weight from a stereo, etc? Stuff like that will slow you down too.....

Also there have been some instances of the V-tec not engaging when it should or not engaging fully.

Actually, that wouldn't be totally surprising. Consider the fact that the TL-S is more than 70lbs heavier than the TL (w/nav), his take off would be advantageous. Also, keep in mind that the torque and hp superiority of the TL-S don't come into play until higher rpm (if you compare the hp and torque curve of the two cars, you'll not notice the difference until higher rpm). So, if he beats you at take off, that's understandable. However, if he beats ya in a 1/4 mile, then there's something wrong with your car. I mean, how much can you really do with an automatic? Just punch and go. I have a friend that has a 2001 TL-P. We raced one night in a remote location. At take off, he had a half a car lead on me, but once we climbed into VTEC range, I was gone! This was back in the bone stock days of my TL-S. Now, with all the mods I did, he doesn't even stand a chance at take off.
