Passing Inspection

I know many of you have "illegal" mods to your car, such as clear corners, motorized monitors, and dark tint. My question is how do you still pass inspection even though they are illegal. I'm going to do all of this, but not if i cant pass inspection.

I have 25% tint in the back and 35% in the front side windows. Here in Chicago, it's illegal to have tints in the front two windows. I've been nailed with $25 tickets a few times already. So, depending on your local law, you might want to consider before tinting them.

Clear corners are perfectly legal as long as you have amber bulbs in the housing so they still blink amber or yellow or whatever ...

If you're planning on putting clear bulbs in there, then that could be an issue passing inspection.

I didn't realize motorized monitors could be illegal. Unless you're talking about one that would be within the driver's vision and distracting...

Just remember, you still need to have some type of amber reflectors on the front of the vehicle. If you've cleared out the corners and you didn't put another reflector somewhere on both sides of the front of the vehicle, then it is illegal in all 50 states as the amber reflector is a DOT requirement. Amber bulbs alone will *not* satisfy this requirement.

It's not the clear corners that are illegal--just a lack of a reflector anywhere else once you do clear them.

yeah, i know about "fix-it" tickets and minor infractions, but im talking about that the yearly inspection. They would definately notice these 3 things.

I'm gonna most likely do 35% regular tint, but I dont know if I want to do the front windows too. Its a WDP. Here is the law for my state.
F. Side - 40
B. Side - 25
Rear - 12

Isnt the F. Side refearing to the front windows?

here's in nj, people who have tinted in the front windows will go to local shop for inspection or have the tint shop removed & put it on again after inspection. both are around $50.

Are you sure?? I've passed NJ Inspection with just amber bulbs in clear lenses, no amber reflector at all.

PS...this was about two years ago, w/ a maxima. the only amber part in the front was a replaceable lense, just like the first gen tl

Take it to a shop that is allow to conduct the inspection and give him some extra cash. I know some1 that works at a shop were the are allowed by state to conduct inspection and my friend gave him $100 and he passed his hooked up civic. That is were I'm taking my car when I have to go for inspection.

definitely a good idea. $100 seems a bit steep though, most places do it for about $60. theyll let you slide with most cosmetic stuff unless the guys a d*ck, but the car still has to pass emissions. that computer is hooked up directly to a state database (at least in jersey i believe), and they cant do anything about it if you fail.

Some inspection stations/cops don't know or don't care about the DOT requirements. Some are by the book and some don't bother unless it's an obvious violation. Perfect example is me right now--I've got a good-sized stone chip in the viewing area of my windshield. By MA law it should not pass safetly inspection, but I just passed this August with no problems. Either the place didn't notice, didn't care, or didn't know the law. You're right in the fact that having amber bulbs will definitely help keep you from getting pulled over but it still doesn't make it legal.

Again, I'm not saying not to do it, and I'm not saying you'll get busted if you do--you may never be stopped or questioned about it. But per the letter of the law, it is illegal.

I can only speak for my state. There are no more inspections for cars in fla, but when they did have inspections, all they cared was that the car had catalytic converters, and they monitored what chemicals came out of the exhaust system. Thats it. I had limo tint, clear corners, and anything else that was illegal in my previous cars, and they didn't even notice, nor did they care. All they were interested in was pollution issues.

Its very risky for us inspection guys to be tossing stickers on cars. I had a girl come in for a NJ state inspection wearing a tank top, no bra, very flirty, she was something else...She wanted a state inspection,I told her not today, come back tomorrow. Well a few hours later the shop down the street called me up and told me they got busted..fine and loss of license. Some girl came in wearing a tank top and wanted an inspection. The car had clear/white directionals. It was a good thing i was busy that day.....
You can not have white, blue bulbs for the signals here in NJ

Well tinted windows....The state did give us the card to hold up to the windows. The darkest tint on the card is much lighter then the smoke tint I had on my 00 accord(cough cough). Just lower the windows, must shops wont even roll up the windows.

FYI & IMHO The private inspection stations will never turn down CASH, especially those that don't have gas pumps. These types of shops don't get much cash flow, mostly credit cards. If you already goto a local shop and they have the equipment, no questions asked.(Remember if they don't keep the customer happy someone else will!)
Hope this has helped
