Parts List for 105K Tune-up

I have an 03 TLS that has about 101K on it, so I am going to do the 105K tune-up and a few other things. Can you guys think of anything that I am missing? Suggestions welcome..........thanks.

I have included the Acura part numbers - maybe it will help someone out.......anyways, here is my shopping list:
Timing Belt
BELT, TIMING (197YU26) - #14400-P8A-A02

ADJUSTER, AUTOMATIC - #14520-P8E-A01 (going to have on hand in case it needs replacing)

ADJUSTER, TIMING BELT - #14510-PGE-A01 (it is my understanding that this does not typically need replacing, so I am probably not going to get it)

WATER PUMP - #19200-P8A-A02

DRIVE BELTS
- Power Steering
BELT, POWER STEERING PUMP (MITSUBOSHI) - #56992-P8A-A01

- A/C & Alternator
BELT, COMPRESSOR (A/C & Alternator) - #38920-P8C-A02

TENSIONER ASSY., AUTO - #31170-P8F-A01 (same as timing belt adjustor.......should I get this just in case)?

PLUGS
SPARK PLUG (PZFR6E-11) (NGK) - #12290-PGE-A02 (probably going to get the OEM Platinum instead of Iridium ones - unless someone can convince me otherwise)

FLUIDS
Power Steering Fluid

Brake Fluid

Tranny Fluid
WASHER, PLUG DRAIN (18MM) - #90471-PX4-000

WASHER, SEALING (24MM) - #90441-PK4-000

Coolant

Engine Oil

Oil Filter
Crush washer

SeaFoam (done a few days before the tune-up)

What am I missing? What do you guys think about the Timing Belt adjustor and the AC tensioner? My local Acura dealer said they typically replace them, it just depends on what condition they are in....what are your guys experiences?

I would replace the timing belt tensioner for sure- if it takes a dive after you paid to have everything else-- and the engine gets hurt....for the what- 100 bucks? do it!!
The ac belt tensioner is a pain to replace by itself- tight working area.
IMO from a lifetime of working on cars, If you are replacing the belts and doing a first class job as you appear to be doing, do it once- do it right and drive the car without worries. Then road trips are a fill the tank and go affair. Dont replace something, and it will fail at the worst time possible.
105 is the time for a valve adjustment too, so you will need gaskets for that.
Spend a $100 with Excelerate and get a thermoblock spacer- have the EGR passages cleaned on the intake manifold while its apart,- makes car run better.

NGK Iridium IX at kragens or similar store- newer-better than Platinum- plenty of evidence online and only cost 7 bucks each vesus dealer extreme charge for platinums
seafoam the oil right before it gets changed and the intake and gas tank a few days-a week before the service
I like DOT4 Synthetic brake fluid- pull the brakes apart- lube everything up for the winter
Have fun!

Have you done the cabin air filter- located behind the glovebox- remove glovebox to access-
Supposed to be done every year- like brake fluid!

Just to clarify, which tensioner are you saying is a must to replace? The "ADJUSTER, AUTOMATIC - #14520-P8E-A01" (about $95ish) or the "ADJUSTER, TIMING BELT - #14510-PGE-A01 (which, per the tech at the local Acura place, is usually not an issue) (about $75ish)?

Thx again.

What about the A/C & Alternator tensioner (about $80ish)?

I am guessing, same story..........spend the $80 now and forget about it for years.

This is looking to be a good thread, keep it coming although I won't do mines until the spring or summer. currently at 125k km or 77k miles. What standard do we go by. I have yet to reach the 105k miles as the standard by acura America. my car is a '99.

the 105 is normal service/duty maitenance schedule. Check the owner book and see what maitenance schedule you should be following. There is also a time limit, and 7 years is pushing it.
With big holes in the Earth's Ozone layer, rubber wears out, gets brittle, cracks etc.
Some members have gone 150-200k on the original belt but they drove that mileage in 5 years.
Failure of the timing belt is a $2500-$4000 mistake.
I plan to replace ALL the tensioners- doing it right once, already had to replace the AC tensioner so why would I trust the others?
Dealer techs like to have a tensioner fail down the road a few months- they get paid twice!

Do you guys know off hand how much all the parts cost for doing the 105k service? And could this possibly be a DIY for a relative novice when it comes to car mechanics? I have access to all the tools I would need and a mechanic that could help me out a little. It would just be nice to spend the money I save on some headers, new front rotors, and a camber kit instead of paying labor costs.

I'm personally going to call about 3 mechanics and talk to them to see which one I'll go with out here in Dallas.

I'm going to let them order the parts so they assume the liability if something should happen.... plus, they have experience and my hands are soft like a baby's arse lol jk errr umm

The only parts I'm bringing them is the Thermoblok spacer, NGK Iridiums, UR Crank Pulley, Rear Sway Bar Progress

I'll seafoam myself... I mean I'll seafoam the car myself

I was going to order the parts myself, but that would suck if I did that and something failed... then I'm out of pocket twice to save $100 or so... I'd rather have the insurance, unless they jack up their profit margin too much

Tell them about our acurazine dealer sponsors- there is a new thread with some links
They may give serious good shop pricing

Do the intake and gas seafoam a week before the service so its all clean and nice for the intake removal and egr cleaning, plus the new plugs will have a safe new home

Shops do have the right to make a profit on parts since they are assuming labor time liabilty if it fails on you. Rare, but it happens.
If you know the prices from azine dealers and the local dealer retail, you can show them those, you wont pay full acura retail at a private shop- especially with most of the jobs are labor intensive for your car.

ADJUSTER, AUTOMATIC - #14520-P8E-A01

I believe this is the tensioner that everyone says to make sure you replace when doing your timing belt...

Agreed, they do have a right to make a profit as we have the right to bargain shop lol... it's all a trickle down from the manufacturer's price... so hopefully it's reasonable.

The only time I would get all the parts... is if the mechanics or suppliers are going way overboard with the profit margin... enough to come close to covering the cost of another timing belt replacement.

If that were the case, I would look for my best deal on parts and take my chances...

Honestly, I wish I had the knowledge, time, and tools to do it myself... It's an awesome knowledge to possess : ) I kinda wanna learn how to play the guitar too hmmm

This will be my first seafoam at 102k miles lol...

I read if it's my first time to seafoam... then to re-seafoam my gas tank after 2 months/2k miles... this can't dirty my new plugs can it? and don't laugh at me lol

I didn't think it would, but I'm making sure

Do the intake and gas tank again after 2k miles
It wont hurt the plugs via the gas at any time. I use 2 oz per gal of fuel when I do it for heavy duty cleaning action in shortest time.
The only way to hurt the plugs is if they are old and weak and you dont do the hot foot drive afterwards- then sludge could stay on the as it splashes off the pistons.

You will not have that problem because you read and understand the DIY Seaform thread.

The only tensioner that needs/should be replaced is the timing belt tensioner. Not the adjuster or the auto tensioner for the ALT

Cmon Kris- let them replace the tensioner pulleys on general principle~

The question is- is there a follower pulley anywhere or just the 2 tensioners?
Since my AC pulley went out way early, I have zero faith in the other ones and plan to replace everything with the timing belt water pump job.

I'm doing this too while everything is apart and I'll probably save tons on labor if a tensioner was to go out on me... I want my car to go another 100k and not even worry about the engine

So I'll seafoam a week prior then change my oil and take her in....

I'm going to go ahead and do all three tensioners, the engine cooling thermostat, and the radiator hoses.... that plus the thermoblok spacer, Iridium plugs, and the UR crank pulley as extras for the timing belt/water pump job should make the job complete for me...

oh and I'll ask him to have the EGR passages cleaned and do the valve adjustment, power steering, coolant, and brake fluid flush.... (lol can't wait to see the look on his face when I tell him all this shit lol) He'll probably be happy to get the business...

My tranny was replaced in May of 07' so I'm good with that fluid for another year.

then I'm done for a while damnit !!

and I got a progress rear sway bar in the mail today woot !! so I'll have him throw that on

then I'm done with one hell of a tune up lol

Why dont you do the plugs and oil change yourself? save $ here to spend over there...
Show him the thread on EGR-thermoblock DIY and he will know what to do to clean everything right.
Search around, fsttyms1 has posted the actual acura description and how to clean the intake port runners and the egr ports in a powered solvent tank- which most shops have one.

Remember its NGK Iridium IX plugs, NOT the denso which cost more and last less

As long as your getting all the fluids changed, and some moisture now is not a big deal-
go ahead and do a full engine and compartment cleaning and spray down.
Gunk orange spray cleaner works well- anything with citrus is better and smells nicer to the wife.
WD40 every electrical part you can reach afterwwards, but before starting the car- just a safeguard, it is Water Dispersant designed for that exact job~

Techs love a clean engine top to bottom- makes their life so much easier to find bolts and not come out greasy to the elbows.

With your mods and a full major service, she will be better than new- literally!
