Parting out cost...

Gentlemen,

I am parting out my 2001 TL but I cannot remove the Competech header, Tsudo Axleback, and UR Crank Pulley myself. Do you know how much will mechanic charges me to remove these 3 mods and install my stock ones back in LA/OC area? Do I need to get all new gaskets? I just want to get an idea if it is worth my time/effort to complete back to stock before I sell it.

Thanks

Probably~ 3-400$ for the headers
~1-200$ for crank pulley
And ~50-100 for axle back exhaust

Wow, that's expensive. Just roughly break even of selling these used parts.

Like skirmich said unless you can do it yourself you will make very little money. try to include it in the price when you sell the car

Hey Nathanli, what was your reason for considering the removal of these parts ? Is it absolutely necessary for the car to be stock in order to sell it, or were you just trying to recoup some money from the parts ?

With all of your other appearance mods, the mentioned mechanical parts should normally be a plus for many potential buyers, IMO. If your car is in relatively good working order, you've already done most of the popular mods.....making it more appealing overall.

What you need to keep in mind ......is that removing the parts is only half of the job. Assuming, you still have the original stuff.....things can go wrong with the attempted re-installation. Not the same as putting fresh new parts on ! So, if it's not your time and effort involved......be prepared to pay some big bucks for their service.

I am trying to recoup some $$ from these parts because I am selling it directly to Carmax. I don't want the headache for private selling to manage people come in for test drive. Carmax don't really care what mods do I have and they usually don't want modified cars and/or cars over 100K miles on them.

I already removed the V2, the JDM sunshade, and bodykit. I am estimating I can get another $800 out of the mechanical mods mentioned above but with this kind of uninstall/reinstall cost; it is not worth it.

I totally agree with you that I could have potential problems of reinstall the stock parts back that I don't want to deal with. I am giving this car a final wash and taking to Carmax tonight.

Thanks for everyone's reply. Say goodbye to my TL tonight. I really hate to sell this car but I cannot justify the repair/maintenance on this old car anymore.

But are the few repairs cheaper than a reoccurring monthly payment

I dunno what Maintenance your reffering too..
The most expensive thing I do in Yearly Basis when there is nothing on schedule is to change my Oil and thats Something I dont really cheap on becouse I dont want to....

IMO the TL is one of the Cheapest low Maintenance car I have ever owned, Even with almost 200K...
Now ask me about my Wifes Bimmer? HELL doing anything on the god damn Dealer becouse of warranty is killing me... once the warranty is over say Hello to DIY bimmer...

I still don't want to deal with it plus the car is really old (2001 model). Just sold to Carmax for $2500. Selling some parts shortly.

$2500 for an 01? how many miles were on it? that sounds like a good deal to me. Did you end up buying a car from them?

I sold two cars to CarMax so far. They gave real good deal so I just went straight to them instead of shopping around. My TL has 139320 miles on it.

I leased a 2013 VW Passat SE (not from CarMax though).
