Park to Reverse - Hear a "Bang" while engaging..??
Well, I recently got my left axle fixed up from the shop, but ever since I got the car back (1999 TL), when I shift from Park to Reverse, I hear a Banging noise and I can feel the car somewhat shake or shift into reverse. When I picked up my car from the shop, the mechanic told me that my two front motor mounts needed to be replaced. Could that be the reason why it is doing that? I have heard that it might be because of the transmission, but I just wanted to ask (since the transmission was replaced by Acura less than a year ago).
He quoted me around $400.00 to replace both mounts.
Any opinions? thanks guys

Just chillen..
Were your mounts replaced when the transmission was replaced? Now, I had the same problem, and I believe it was the transmission. It would "jerK" rather than go in smoothly. But the question for you is, you had your transmission already replaced. Any CELS? Slipping through any gears?

No slipping of any gears, transmission seems to be fine while driving, and no CEL's.
The only time this happens is when I start the car then put it in reverse. At a red light, I put the car in park, then in reverse just to see and this time it didn't happen. Just seems to happen when I start the car after letting it sit (like at least an hour).

check your front and rear engine mounts. i had the same problem before my tranny change at 2k mi later it started again and i had to get down and dirty with the rear engine mount. it was shatered, twisted and had no hydraulic fluid left in it.
its fixed now. good luck, the mount is $100-120 but labor is crazy. DIY. just takes time.

Most likely your mouts are bad and need to be replaced. Especially if they havent been yet.

Sticky excerpt:
These characteristics are normal; they should not require you to call your Acura dealer:
Mechanical noise when selecting a forward or reverse gear. It's normal to hear a slight mechanical noise when moving the shift lever from one gear to another. This noise can sound abnormally loud if any of the windows are down and you are parked next to a wall or another vehicle.

Gotta love those "ever since" stories! LOL!! "I had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube last year, and "ever since", my power lumbar support in the passenger seat hasn't worked". I used to hear shyt like this all the time when I was wrenching. Makes you laugh sometimes!!
