Painting OEM Kit

Today I recieved my OEM kit that I had orderded. I got the OEM kit for cheap!, I mean cheap!, Its all orignal Acura, unopened with the screws that go with it. The problem is that, the front lip is white, and the side skirts is green. Now I want to repaint them to Heathermist. How would I do it? And what would be the best meathod? Should I do myself by going to Acura and get factory paint? Or go to a bodyshop, let them paint and I'll install it. Thanks!

Where you have it painted is really up to you. I would go to the dealer and ask them where they have their bodywork done and have them give you a quote. It's gonna be a little expensive b/c the will have to strip it and repaint. Then I would do the install myself. It's not hard to do at all but if you don't think you could do it without screwing it up, then bring it somewhere.

To paint them is going to be easy. I agree, I would see where my local Acura dealer has there body work done for the simple fact that they paint Acura's all the time. You have a much better chance that the paint is going to match by going there, even if it might cost a little more. The spoilers do not need to be stripped. They will scuff the spoilers up with a sanding cloth and prime right over the old paint. I'm sure they will look awesome once they are done and on the car.

I agree that thing to the dealer, I've experimented with my heathermist accord a while back. I've taken it to some crappy body shops and they'd totally screw up the paint matching. I even had better luck just painting myself, but only problem with that is the paint chipped no matter how many coats of clear or paint I put in. Dealers will charge u more but it'll look much better than some body shop

I got one cheap on ebay also. I took mine to the dealer. Before I brought them to Acura, I sent him a picture. He quoted me $250. Canadian for the front and back skirtl. Another acura dealer quoted me $350 Canadian. Crazy right? So I brought them in to the better quoted dealer. He saw the pieces and saw that they were brand new. He said it will be cheaper because they are brand and wont reqiure all that sanding from actual use. I took them in Friday and they were ready yesterday. The real cost is in the installation, 3hrs to do (front, back and side skirts). Take it to Acura and get it done right.

Clear has very little to do with it. Prep is the Key. If you dont do it correctly paint wont stick no matter what you do. Degreasing and sanding are Key!

We installed my entire kit in 1 hour. Even without a lift it should take no more then 1.5 hrs. Have the dealership print out the installation instructions and do it yourself.

No aftermarket paint job is as good as the factory one because of the OEM multi-coat, multi-bake process. Especially the aero kit is made from bumper material which will flex, so you must add flex agent into the paint mix. Otherwise the finished paint will crack like crazy if bend or hit by flying rocks.

I got mine from EBAY. Orginal stuff, BRAND NEW in the box. There is nothing wrong with EBAY, and I got the inopened bolt bag for the kit. Color might be different, but whats the rush, take your time and sand it down, and get it painted.

Would Acura paint it for me, if I pay them? Like how much we talkin here? Front and sides, thanks!

Got a quote that, $250 for painting all 5 items. Color match would be hard on my car due to the fact I have heathermist. But he said he will try, but I havent yet decided on it.

The problem is that once the 3rd gen. TL is out, the factory is gradually ramping down productions on 2nd gen. parts especailly on accessories. So one may be lucky enough now to find the right pieces in any color, let alone choosing colors. It would have been much easier a year or two earlier when parts were still abudant.

I'll say, and if you can find the accessory at a stealership they still charge MSRP unless they're really desperate to unload it. I picked up a brand new front skirt for my '02 in Silver for less than 1/3 of MSRP from the dealer in Ottawa. Even after getting painted I'll still come out on top. And no, I didn't drive there to pick it up, I was already there visiting a friend of mine.

The expensive quote was form Luciani Acura on Jean Talon. The new lower price is from Gabriel Acura on St John's Blvd. There body shop is in the Gabriel Mitsubishi dealership next door. Ask for Junior. It was done with OEM paint and Acura standards. The quote for labour is about 2 -2.5 hrs. They told me they have to really give it a clean wash because, appparently some og the parts will be glued.

Yes I am serious. What made it cheap is that they are brand new out of the Acura box.

And now everything is painted and installed, and it is awesome. Gabriel ACura did a fantastic job. Go see Junior. Install was perfect and the car looks solid.

I take pictures once it stops raining and post them.

since its already got paint on it you want to use something rougher like 200-400 grit to remove the old paint then after you primer it wet sand the primer with a 500-600 grit wet sanding sandpaper hope that helps

Dealer does not mean great work ... all body shops are about the same ... it all depends how great the prep work is done. David McDavid Acura auto repair in Austin Texas SUCKS!
