Painting exhaust Y pipe

What's the best heat paint to paint the rear Y pipe? I painted mine with high heat paint and it was supposed to stay black BUT the thing turned RED! ARRRRRRRRR
What should I use to keep it black?
TIA

Lightbulb Rust-O-Leum!

Flat Black 1500 degree paint in a green can - made for BBQ grills. Mine still looks good months later. At any hardware store or Home Depot.

The only one I found ...

was rated at 1200 F. It's by RUST-OLEUM. Is this the right one? The can is green though and I got it at Home Dep.
I could not find one rated at 1500 F.
TIA

Cool

Just got it done a couple of days ago. Check out my post: http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...572#post145572

I got it from my local Pepboys. The hot paint is able to resist over 1500 degrees F.

You know for the life of me I can't see my Y-pipe (02 TLS). I've been peeking at the car from about the driver's hieght from about 10-20ft behind the car and I can't see it! Maybe it's too far in the shadows for me to make out any details.

park your car in my drive way. Take the side walk and look up. It is pretty apparent from that angle. Mine's still chrome, will paint when I have time.

yeah, I taped some newspaper between the y-pipe and the car, got 1500 F paint (@ Kragen w/ 10-15 different colors) and it took me 5 minutes

I do it because

the pipe is visible to the outside drivers. It looks sooo rusted. Makes the car look bad. I can't believe that Acura did not take care of that problem.

That's the one I used. I only did it yesterday though, not exactly a long term test. I turns into a nice satin charcoal grey color when dry. Hope it holds up.

This mod it too easy. Incidently, the pipe that we are painting is stainless steel. The rust you folks are seeing on the pipe itself is probably discoloration from welding and crud, not rust.

I used the Rust Olem too, and did it about a month ago, seems to be holding up pretty well
