paint chip

does anyone know how i can fix a paint chip about 2 inch by 1 inch......it's on the bumper area...im wondering if i should use touch up paint...but maybe im better off purchasing the factory paint from the dealer and bringing it elsewhere.

Try doing a search, someone posted some real good detailed instructions of how to do it. You can use the touch up paint, don't use the brush they include, get the smallest, finest brush you can. You will need multiple applications to fill it, don't try to raise it to the level of the surrounding paint in one attempt.

The other post went through how to wet sand once the chip is filled to a slightly higher level than the surronding paint, etc.

If it truly is a 2"x1" scratch, I'd take it to a body shop. No touch up paint in the world is gonna make it look good.

BTW that's not a chip, that's a crater.

I think body shop will be a better choice. Don't wet sand it unless you know what are you doing. I did on my hood to fix couple chips and made even worse... ended up bring it to a body shop.

That's not a chip - it is a crater! Even Bruce Willis couldn't stop a sucker that big. Definitely body shop.

Believe it or not, the FIRST WEEK i had my car some moron rear-ended me! It was tramatic as you can imagine. Lucky there were only two vertical lines of missing paint in the rear bumper from his liscence plate. To the point, I had a good experience with a "mobile body shop" guy that came by in a van. He sanded the spot down a little, put body filler on, sanded and paitned. The spot is virtually gone. Just more convienient becuase you dont have to drop off your car at some body shop where a teenager will floor your car somewhere before you get it back.
