paint
'03 blue always outside original owner but kept waxed since new. Now seeing paint fading mostly on roof near rear windshield. Tried very mild compound but no difference. Suppose this is inevitable in a car 12 yrs old this month. Anyone else see this? Overall been a good car and 113K original transmission. When that fails adios car.

The "fading" paint may be that the clear-cote is starting to wear thin with age and exposure to the elements. You can try to have the area spot repaired if it bothers ya. But, considering the age....just keep the finish polished and sealed with a good quality wax. You're the only one looking at the imperfection.

im in the same boat. the exact same spot too. its not bad but i can tell the paint is getting hazy near the rear window on the roof. i only have one real bad spot that just started to chip away and thats on the side of the rear window probably about and index finger long and an ince wide.. i didnt wax it for one year and now i am paying for it

White spots on roof
My paint was much worse. The clear coat had turned white in several spots. On roof near front windshield and rear window.
Waxing was no help. I got some 2000 grit sand paper some heavy duty rubbing compound and some polishing compound.
I used the sand paper with lots of water till the white spots felt smooth to the touch, (careful, use lots of water and go slow) than I used the heavy duty rubbing compound till the white almost gone, (be careful to work on the white or hazy sections only as you can get through the paint quickly) Than I switched to the polishing compound till white haze was gone. Finished up with a good Carnuba wax.
The white that could be seen from my front porch is gone. The paint is not perfect and the clear in those sections is gone, but only noticeable from close up. A couple hours work and now I can put off a new paint job for awhile.

It will get much worse in the next 1-3 years. I have a 1999 and noticed thinning and clouding on the roof three years ago. Today the trunk and roof are pretty bad however the sides and hood are perfect for some reason.
