overdrive D5

On an empty road today i was trying to get top speed in my 00 TLP. I used D5 and pushed the pedal to the floor. however, after accelerating quickly to 100mph, it seemed like the car couldn't go any faster, and my rpms were stuck at like 4/5k RPM. Is this because of the overdrive? If so, I guess I will either use D4 or Sportshift when I try to do top speed runs..

You can get over 130mph in this car... though I wouldn't want to get caught at those speeds.

Personally I just wouldn't sit too close to redline trying to hit your top end.

This is making me wonder, what speed is the '99 TL supposed to reach in each gear? I would appreciate the info.

that info should be in the opwners manual- click here for a free download
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp

Use SS as you want to stretch 3rd out- thats the last of the power gears- 4th is 1-1 and
5th is .7 -1 or along those lines
You will hit the rev limiter so no redline fears, max torque is lower than that- and the speed limiter will come on -speed varies with year-model and original tires

Invest 250 bucks in high performace driving track day at a roadrace course near you

D5 has NOTHING to do with it. Its just a gear and if your not in it its not effecting anything. The problem lies in that 4th and 5th are both overdrive gears and are tall. If you attempt something like this again its best to hold 3rd to redline that way when it shifts into 4th it doesnt drop out of vtec.
