Over filling crankcase.

I use Royal Purple and will not be changing the oil till 8k, but will change the filter every 4k. So today I took the old filter off and a good amount of oil came out but not a quite a quart. So I just filled up the filter with oil and dumped the test of the qt into the engine.

I check the oil dip stick and it was a lil high, so I just ended up loosening the filter a lil bit and let some oil out.

What can happen if it is over filled and whats the max limit. I know they say crank capacity is 4.6lt.

I don't think it should be a problem. I have read that putting in 5 full quarts is fine. I put in about 4.5 in mine and it was still above the second dot, I'm not sure why.

I always put 5qts. What I am saying was when I changed the filter out, I added a whole qt thinking I was going to loose a full qt. So at one point i might have had 5.5 qts in there.

just start the car shut it off unscrew the filter pour it out and reinstall. May take 2 times but you should be ok then. Next time just fill the filter and start the car after wards and check the level. add as necessary

I would let oil out of the drainplug before subjecting a delicate rubber o-ring to repeated tightenings- the ones on oil filters are designed for a one use application

exception for superior filters~

Just buy a good oil filter like the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter and leave it in the whole 8K miles. That 's what I'm doing right now and I'm also running the RP oil 'til 8K miles. Almost ready for the change and oil sample for Blackstone Labs for analysis.

that rubber seal can take it. its not like your cranking it tight with a pipe wrench. Pluss its alot easier to control how much comes out

Let us know the blackstone results. I did have a mobil1 filter on there, but a better alternative to me is the NApa Golds, the same ones as Wix. They cost about $4.25 shipped online if you buy in bulk.

When I worked in a shop the rule on filters was: on once- of course we replaced drain plug washers each time as well.

yes its total CYA procedure- and that vesus buying an engine....

Lets see the blackstone reports from each of us with different filter and oil combos
Until then- its just pride claiming a personal choice as best

I plan on changing my filter at halfway point next time- just to get an oil midlife test done, easy to grab sample from the filter

Won't getting the oil sample directly from the oil filter alter the results? The oil comes out of the dirty oil filter, so you have more contaminants. I know the filter is supposed to trap them but still.

I'll be sure to post the results once I have it done. I've got about 400+ miles to go which translates to about another 3-4 weeks before I change it.

400+ miles in 3 to 4 weeks. I wish my TL could rest like that. I put on roughly 590 miles a week on my car.

I do I around 300 miles a week on my TL and 200 of that is driving to school alone. Sucks but most of it is all highway mileage which is better. Where can i buy oil filters in bulk?? Is it cheaper that way then buying individually from like discount automparts each time? I run Mobil 1 full syn oil and Mobil 1 Extended Performance Filter, I change both every 5K miles due to amount of driving i do.

if u are chaning 5k dont waste cash on mobil1 filter. Fleetfilter.com sells Napa Gold filters for about 4.13 each. I placed a order from them for my TL and RSX filters plus cabin filter. Quick shipping to. And Napa Gold will last the 7500 OCI.

According to www.blackstone-labs.com on how to sample
You can get a sample a number of ways- just note in the comments box if taken from filter, if engine dead cold, cold sample thru dipstick, or properly warmed middle of the draining, ...
They can take that in to account if any readings are off-

Many people like to change the filter halfway and its a great way to get a sample then and get the extra $10 test that checks the life remaining in the additives- thats important for long interval users

When draining to change oil- you grab a 4 0z sample from the flow, about 2 qts into the draining
the dirt isnt an issue when using a mass spec to test the oil

OCI= Oil change Interval. From What I see is if Kris's enging lasted 200k without any problems on Fram, I would not waste money on M1 filters.

With FULLY synthetics and a good filter, there is no need to change every 5000
You can do acuras suggested 7500 that the oil minder light is set for no sweat
You can do it on dino too but I wont- personal choice

Oil is the blood of the engine- its life juice.

In the human body, we have the lymph system to clean our oil, when you're sick and sluggish- your lymph system is plugged and needs a water flushing to get clean again

for the car- a disposable wad of paper and resin to catch little microscopic size particulate matter byproducts of combustion.

I believe better is well...better
Better oil makes for cooler temps and reduced friction
Better filters make for cleaner oil- thats good~
Better brakes keep the car OE length- thats VERY good!
Better tires make for lower lap times- thats awesome!!

Yea i get you, but honestly my mileage climbs every week so fast and a like to do it every 5K to have peace of mind because i will be with this car for a pretty long time, atleast for the next 4 years if anything and i like to ensure that its longevity is ensured the best i can. Call me crazy but im just doing it 2,500 miles earlier then suggested, cant hurt ya kno. Hey, if im flat broke, then ill do 7,500 intervals lol.

Yeah I'm fortunate to live only 1 mile from work and 6 miles from school. If I had to commute 500+ miles a week, I'd do it with an old Civic. I can't bear the thought of running up the miles on my TL. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

If your running syn you can go far longer than that and your motor will last. I was doing 8k on regular dino oil and 10-15k on syn. Tests show that it was still fine. Also the motor had 200k on it when i pulled it out and it easily had 200k + more
