Outside Temp Gauge is way off
I have been told by 3 "service advisors" that the outside Temp Gauge on all TL's is usually reading a much higher temperature than it really is. The reason is that the sensor is close to the engine and that the heat from the engine causes a higher reading. Why can't they put the sensor in the rear somewhere away from the heat of the engine to get a proper reading. I guess the designers just can't figure that one out.

I've noticed the same thing. When my car is parked, the warmth of the radiator keeps the sensor warmer. Once you've been driving for a couple of minutes it ok though. It's hard to come up with a really good location for that thing. If you put it in the rear, the mufflers/exhaust system would do the same thing to it to some extent.
I just sort-a ignore it until I've driven a few minutes.

Forgot to mention this...
For those who don't know just where the sensor is, it is mounted right near the horn, several inches in front of the radiator. It's essentially in the middle of the front bumper.
It's not THAT bad of a place to mount it. If you've been driving for a few minutes, or the A/C is on (therefore, radiatior fans are on), it should read without much interference.

Since there is talk about the temperature sensor... here how to adjust it ! Mine is about +- 1C when the car is moving according the the temp at Toronto Airport! Maybe the mods can move it to the FAQ section.
With the car on, press and hold the select and reset buttons.
After 10 seconds the temperature display will start to go through a cycle of 1, 2, 3, 0, -1, -2, -3.
These represent correction factors. Just let the buttons go when you get to the number you want.
You can repeat this at necessary until the temperature reading is correct.
I have to give credit to this site for the info.
