Our TL's Radio Code

Well, I just wanted to let people know my discovery today. Yesterday, after I installed my CAI, I got in the car and tried to turn on my radio... but.... I needed the code. Needless to say I just about killed someone I was so furious. Let me give you some quick history on my car. It was originally bought in Toronto, then Honda of Canada bought it back, which a dealer bought from them, which in turn I bought the TL from the second dealer. So anyways, I took it in to Acura Carland (my dealer) and told them the problem. He said we'll have to pull the radio, and then I said, cant you just look up the VIN, and he said not unless I know the dealer that it came from. Luckily I had 2 of their cards (Sterne Acura in Toronto) and he called them up, gave them my VIN and I got my code!!! Hope this helps some people in the future!

You can also hold the "1" and "6" buttons on the radio when you turn it on to get the serial number i think... Then you can get the code that way too. I think its 1 and 6, but im not positive... Can anyone confirm???

For most of us, there is a card with the number on it for the radio.

Why did you have to enter the radio code after installing the CAI? Did you have to disconnect the battery in order to do it?

Yes you are correct, but this only works on the '02 and newer head units. I don't think it will work on the non-changers of the '99, '00 or '01 HUs.

Yea, I had to disconnect the battery, to get to one of the air box screws..... I didn't have a ratchet extention.... meaning getting the resonator out was a complete disaster! Anyways, I tried that 1 and 6 thing, and it wouldn't work, so I'm guessing its just the 02+.

Just so you all know....the radio serial number is easily seen if you remove the fake wood trim piece along the right side of the console off. Staring you in the face on the right side of the radio face is a little white sticker- the serial number. No removing the radio necc. Have proof of owner ship and ID ready cuz they shoudnt give you a code without it. Hope it saves someone a little headache. That cute little trick with the one and six buttons only works on 2k and up.

SOOO you're telling me you can get the radio code from the HU itself????.......doesn't that just defeats the purpose of the radio code.....some guys steals the unit and installs it and then holds down 1 and 6 and gets the radio code???? Is it me or does that seem wrong.

Good thing I found this message. You saved me a huge amount of time because I was just about to take out the radio to find the serial number on the back of the unit. I popped off the right side trim and sure enough, the serial number was right there. Thanks! BTW, I think you meant that the one and six button trick works on 2002 and up. It didn't work on my 2000.

Another trick is that if you have ever taken your TL for servicing, they print the radio code on your invoice. I had to pull an old invoice once to get the code to type in.

You actually have to bring the Radio along with the car to get the code to prove that you're the owener.

There's a little white sticker with the radio code on it, on the left side of your glovebox. Just open the box door, and you'll see it.

Somebody said same thing. He said behind the fuse box or something, but nobody can find what he was saying...

You need to pull of the trim panel that runs along side of the console off to see it. Its on the right side of the radio.
