Other Steering Wheels Fit??

as the title suggests....do any other car's steering wheel fit the second gen TL??

i thought perhaps any CL or MDX wheel would work, does anyone have any definite info on this??

I would say look at a MOMO or similar steering wheel adapter hub. If they use the same part # for the hub, then I would say it would probably fit. The only thing you would have to worry about at that point would be wether or not the SRS plug(s) would work. Hope that helps.

just know doing so will void some parts of the warranty and get you in trouble with the insurance company if you dont tell them OR get the rates seriously increased if not voided...they dont like it when people play with the airbags...Be sure to ask first.

hhmmm, good points guys....especially about the insurance

what would you guys recommend for a worn steering wheel??
if i just replaced it with another TL wheel, would there be any way for the insurance company to tell it had been replaced??

if you did that by the dealership or profesional people there wont be a problem, but if you go with a different wheel (say MOMO) the insurance is gonna give you the finger. Not to mention its ilegal having no airbag or god forbid you have one but it doesnt deploy when you need it causing your head to bash agains the rock hard steering wheel cracking you craneous and leaving you paraplegic...just so you know, unless you got some "butterfly effect" genes in you, theres no way to turn back time.

i thought i'd exagerate a bit so you could make the right decision...you can always buy some of that ruber thing you wrap around the wheel.

ha....yea man that was a pretty graphic example

i know what you're saying, but if i just got a replacement TL steering wheel, and put it on myself, there wouldn't be a problem, right??

i assume it's simply a matter of popping off the old steering wheel, putting in the new one and reattaching the airbag plug

and my original question was really this, if you happen to know:
do last gen CL and MDX wheels fit on second gen TL's???

I would assume they would fit, but again, you would also need the airbag to go with it. Then it would become a question whether or not the different airbags that are designed to fit in different shaped cabs would effectively save your face in wreck. If you want to do anything, just get yourself a type S steering wheel which WILL fit and looks a little nicer to boot.

i'm not sure if i was clear......i was thinking of just replacing the steering wheel rim, not the entire wheel

can't you just leave the airbag cluster in there, and replace the rim of the wheel??

if so, would a MDX or CL wheel fit fine??

also, how close do you think colors would be from those 2 models on a parchment TL??

do you know anything about the color differentiation??? i assume the parchment interior of the CL is the same color, but the MDX might be a little different shade?

I've got an '02 Type S perf steering wheel on my '99, I think it's the same as an MDX. My interior is Tan and it matches great.

awesome, that's what i was hoping for......so now i can just look for any second gen TL or last model CL wheel, or a pre june 2002 MDX

is there a way to tell when the MDX wheel was made??

also, i assume it's relatively easy to replace the rim right??
i've looked and it seems like there are panels that pop off of the back of the wheel

thanks a million darkshear, you've helped a lot

those instructions look a little more intensive than i had planned, is this something a fairly intelligent person can tackle, even though it says it's not intended for "do it yourselfers"???

its so easy...

disconnect battery
wait 10 minutes
pop the 2 small covers on the sides and the one under the wheel
disconnect the airbag and the horn connectors
unscrew the sirbag from the sides, remove airbag
everything else is obvious, you gotta take off the buttons and move them to the new wheel, its really easy

only hard part is A: removing the bolt, that fucker is on tight, and B: making sure you put the new wheel on the same as the old... gotta make sure the wheel goes on stright otherwise you will be driving with a cocked wheel... you will see what i mean, the part where the wheel connects to the column has teeth under the bolt...
