Post Opinions on Comtech Exhaust...

I'm looking for opinions from those who have Comtech exhaust on their TLs. I'm considering them for mine and concerned the increased noise level may get a little annoying over time. One person told me it gets a little annoying after awhile. What does everyone else think? I drive on many long trips and like to be able to listen to music at normal levels, hear my cell phone, and carry on a conversation at the same time.

I think stock mufflers on type S are pretty good. They are already high flow type with about ~30% less restriction then regular TL mufflers. Cat and exhaust tubing is larger on type S then regular TL as well.

I'd say spend your $500 on something else. Perhaps better tires for the summer.

Cool

I agree - I would not spend any money on exhaust. Spend it on headers, springs/sways or better tires.

Other than the nice looks of the exhaust, I agree - they do not make much power. At least the black paint doesn't flake off.

I donot find the exhaust boom runninf through the gears intrusive but I am an inveterate hot-rodder used to Big Block Corvettes and the like.

One thing not mentioned is that the resonances of the exhaust do add a bit of vibration to the chassis, but I only noticed this in back to back drives between a stocker and my car.

At highway speeds, the noise is completely inobtrusive save for a subtle sense of "meat" back there.

I had a 1991 300 ZX that had a Borla and it boomed at 2500 RPM on the highway to the point I got nauseous - had to go. BTW, it was a rare hardtop ZX, one of a handful brought in for racing setup. No squiggly t-tops, and it looked very sleek.

I dont think the Comptech EXhausts make much power for the TL-P let alone the TL-S which alreday have a freer flowing exhaust. If you want it purely for looks and sound, get it otherwise save up for the Headers or get something else.

I had then put on at Park Ave Acura, which is 180 miles from where I live. About 2/3'ds of the way home, I was regretting the decision, as the droning was really getting to me. I found that I would be relieved if I let off on the gas and the droning would go silent for a few seconds.

As time went on, I got used to the sound. It is quite satisfying, however, on a long trip it becomes more noticable. I am not sure if the noise increases as the units get hotter.

At any rate, I was pleased to find that Park Ave Acura had put my original exhaust system in my trunk. If I ever feel like going back, at least I can.

I would suggest that you listen to a car with them installed, if possible, and decide. It is strictly a personal preference thing. I think that I would do the headers first, if I had it all to do again.

However, as I've said before - - SPRINGS FIRST!!! (Best bang for the buck!!)

Thanks very much for the input. I think I'll be going w/ body kit next, then springs. I just don't know who, if anyone, I can get to install the springs at a reasonable price. I'll probably have to go to Crown in Richmond.
