Opinion on mixing springs?

I'm considering putting Comptech fronts and H&R oe rears on my tls.

Would the fact that these are not designed as a pair adversely effect handling in any way?

From what I've heard the H&R oe are stiffer than the comptechs so what impact would that have on turn-in around corners?

P.S. if anyone has closeup pics of comptech drop and/or H&R oe pls post em!

I know a few people that have H&R OE in the front and Comptech in the rear, specifically MarcS on the CL board, but not vice versa.

I think you would end up with way too much rake in the car.

Well, visually, this drop is supposed to be less rake than Comptech because the H&R oe seems to drop 1.25 inches in the rear vs the 1.0 inch comptech.

My concern was more an imbalance in handling.

Well, like I replied on acl.com.... mixing springs = mixing spring rates which could potentially be pretty dangerous....

i'd be cautious unless you really understand suspensions. the fronts and rears are designed to work together.

I have OEs now. I am thinking about getting OE Sports on the front only(if I can get front springs only somehow).

Spring manufacturers design and test their springs to be used as a set(front and rear), so my opinion is that mixing springs is not a good solution. I personally would rather settle for a particular spring and be secure in knowing that the front and rear springs on the car were made to work together.

Are the pair of FRONT springs different from REAR? Or all 4 springs are the same?

Because, moste of the cars, except series 3 are not 50/50 balance. So the pairs must be different for a better handling.

Am I wrong?

Front springs are different than rear ones. One pair (forgot if it was front or rear) is longer than the other pair

why? again why? and finally why? would you change the springs in the front and leave the rears? i dont get this question. do you need to get a better position in your seat? the tl's do come with power seats you can raise and lower your position.

trying to be gansta huh? jk.

The issue is this:

H&R, Eibach, Neuspeed etc. are all designed for the accord. Therefore, not only do they result in more drop on the TLS, they drop the rear proportionally more.

Comptech is designed for the TLS/CLS but tries to equalize the wheel gap which is originally more in the front and less in the rear. As a result, it drops the front more than the rear which results in the body lines sloping downward slightly even though the wheel gaps are equal.

Some have suggested the idea of Comptech front/H&R oe rear which will LOOK fine but I'm just not sure if the handling will be properly tuned.

In any case, until someone else designs springs SPECIFICALLY for the TLS/CLS I'm back to where I started : Comptechs.

This is NOT a true statement..... at least regarding the H&R's.......

I have the H&R Sports... and even with a 50 lb. or so subwoofer box in the trunk my car sits even. It also sat even w/o the weight in the trunk. In addition my drop is as advertised... ~1.75".....

According to hrsprings.com the drop is supposed to be 1.75 front and 1.5 rear for the TL.

http://www.hrsprings.com/fcgi-bin/qu...nsionquery.cfg

Your drop is very close to spec. I think the biggest reported problem is with the H&R oe rears which seem to drop 1.25 instead of the specified 0.5 inch.

The rear is definitely more then 1.5.... closer to 1.75.... but the car is exactly even... so I'm happy

hemants are you still considering the H&R sports? I thought you were sold on them after you drove my car OE drop will not be as low as my drop. If you think my drop is too much, OE should fit your taste

Don't get me wrong, I loved the way your car handled and bumps were not too bad at all. Only thing is my wife drives the car half the time and we also do long highway trips so I think the H&R would be too low and stiff for our needs.

Problem with the OE drop is that it seems to drop the rear more than the front (bcs the drop specs are for the Accord and real world drop on TLS is different)

Keep it simple and keep it stock. Especially if you say your wife drives it half the time and you take long trips. Play it safe and keep it stock or whatever springs you get keep them the same all around.
