Opinion on cost
Hello 2G TL owners. I have not been here for a while since I did my AV6 swap a few years ago. I am proud to say that the car continues to run like champ. Since getting it from the original owner with 105k on the Odometer, I've only accumulated 30k in almost 5 years of ownership. At the moment, I am on crossroad what I wanted to do with the car. It is my daily commute car and my place of work is not that far where I live; about 18 miles round trip. With gas prices continuously creeping up, I am having a hard time filling it up with premium and sometimes I have to result in using 88. I just had to spend on new tires since the previous one was still from the first owner and the tires are badly cracked up compromising safety. On the same token, I know I also need to perform a routine oil change (which I always keep up to date). I always DIY this but I figured, might as well do the other fluids. I mean if I bought new tires, then it means I will probably own the car for another X-number of years before I finally decide to pass it on to someone else. So now for my question:
Is paying $350 for the following services reasonable?
- Oil change
-Transmission drain/fill
- Brake fluid flush
- Coolant flush
- P/S flush
- Replace both valve cover gasket and grommets
- Re-seal oil pan using Honda-bond sealant
- Wheel alignment
All the work will be done on the side by a Honda Mech inside the dealership. All fluids, except for the motor oil, will be Honda OEM but I will be buying the valve cover gasket it. I know I can DIY all of this but I just don't have enough time on hand. I figured if I get all the fluids done, I should be set for another 2-3 years (except the oil changes of course) not having to worry about it... The mechanic said the car is in really good shape and shows no signs of major problems (at the moment).
Thoughts?

Almost "too reasonable". Cost out the materials alone, then add in book labor at a minimum of $100/hr. Then ask yourself "Why would the owner of the dealership allow one of his mechanics to moonlight doing repairs inside his facility". If you go through with this deal you might consider getting receipts for the materials supplied by your mechanic. Some deals are too good to be true.
i do know that certain dealerships allocate fluid allowance to their mechanics so theres really no cost to him to use his ration… at least thats what i was told… so in essence its really just his labor cost…
I agree with WT !
I haven't had a shop do any work for me other than exhaust or tires. But I'm fortunate to have a shop and Master Mechanic in the family. Boils down to who you can trust and is qualified.
We've worked in the business for over 50yr , I don't trust some of these shops to change oil let alone leave my vehicle, or let it out of my sight for even tire work.
