Hi everyone, my s2000 was totaled last week & I'm looking into getting a TL or TL Type S but my question is, do all TL's have these tranny failures? or is it only the 02-03 Type S's? I'm currently looking at this '01 TL with 117k miles and I don't really know if this specific model is prone to having the tranny failing as well. Thanks for all the help guys, I still really miss my s2k

 

they all are prone to it.

 

anything from 99 to 2003 will have issues, the safest bet is to purchase one with a recently replaces tranny or a rebuilt one.

 

side note - ask if the 105k maitenance has been done - costs aroud $1,300 at the dealer, half that at a reputable shop....

I believe it is every second gen...had a cl type s and have a tl type s...both had the trannys replaced

 

my 01 trans went out at 70- warranty~

there are 2 kinds of gen2 TL, those with a replaced transmission or 3
.... and those waiting for it to happen

While many go out between 50 and 100, if they go past 100 they they seem to keep going and going,
Ive seen 159kmiles on a 00 original, with a 3 qt fluid change every year at dealer

 

buy a specific aftermarket warranty for the powertrain- engine transmission against any type failure
