Unhappy One thing stinks!

Hi guys (and gals too... I hope) I'm a newbie in this forum so forgive me if this is a repeat, but since the car's only been out a couple of months, I suspect it's not. What's up with the 19 city/29 highway mileage estimate on the sticker. I previously owned a 95 V6 Camry and a 99 325, both automatics and both powerful, but great on gas. I'm lucky if I'm getting a combined 15 mpg out of this TL-S (and it requires premium fuel to boot). Anybody else noticing the same, and do the TL models also get bad mileage?

I drive about 60/40 Highway/City and average about 22mpg. You are right about the city driving. If you are driving spirited you will get poor gas mileage. After all we are pumping 3.2 litres.

The MB E320 has similiar specs when it comes to engine size and mileage.

For the first 3000 miles, I was getting crappy gas milage. But now, it seems to last a long time. I used to have to fill up 2 times a week, but now it's just about once a week unless I do a short trip somewhere.

I have gotten nearly 25 mpg out of the box, which is better than my 2000 TL.

I get 30-32 MPG on strictly highway driving. I am impressed with my gas mileage overall. It is better than my '99 TL.

Won't make a FINAL statement but my new '02 3.2TL-S seems to get better gas milage than the '99 3.2TL I traded in on it.

I get 25-26 MPG on 90% highway driving.
It's acceptable.

At 590 total miles..... the last 250 gave me 22.8 mpg.
I'd say 90% highway but it doesn't hardly count when in traffic at 10-15mph for a few miles at a time.
Also using sportshift to increasingly move the revs around gently for break-in and that isn't too gas efficient. In auto, it sure loves to hover around 2000rpm.
I couldn't count the first fill since it turned out the dealer shorted the tank perhaps a couple of gallons.

Hope your 15 improves with time and miles.

Thanks to all for the replies on the mileage. I guess that either my expectations are too high or I've got a pin-hole leak in the gas tank. I'll keep hoping for improvements. Happy cruising everyone. P.S. - I just stubled on this site by accident, looking for a painted spoiler and this is a great forum for individuals with this common interest!

I posted another message about how my gas mileage seemed like it was going to be low on my first tank after 600 miles - but only because I would be driving with a heavy right foot. I finally filled the tank up yesterday (the message was posted at the half a tank mark on the gas meter) and was shocked that I got about 18 mpg for all city, very performance-oriented driving. This is about 1 mpg better than my 1991 Legend got with less right foot on the floor driving. I am very pleased. I expect this next tank to get 23-24 mpg as I calm down a bit on the gas, and do some freeway driving.

Cool

Pete

Sounds like another. Saw a black once in the area a few weeks before I got mine.

I'm in semi-stealth mode since my S badge was missing on delivery -- the dealer will have one when I go back for my plates. To install or not to install....

Perhaps see ya on the road sometime!

I'm getting 24-27 MPG in SoCal traffic. My driving style switches between sedate and very aggressive.

My 00 TL's mileage is also very poor. Roughly 16-17 mpg range.

Kind of suprising, since my 530i can constantly deliver 18-20 range. And i punch the gas on 530i on daily basis.
