Old tranny drain and fill question
Old tranny drain and fill question
I have my original tranny still almost 118k(99 TL). I want to do a drain and fill and wanted your opinions on doing this. Over the past few weeks when cold out and cruising in 4th gear when I punch it there is a moderately hard shift, a little abrupt and then it goes. Will doing a drain and fill help smooth this abrupt downshift? It only does it when in 4th going highway speed and then slowing for a car turning off and then while still in 4th(40mph approx.) I step on it 1/2-3/4 throttle and it downshifts hard. When it was warner out it doesn't do this. Also wondered if Honda AFT has different weights for different temps. Please give me your suggestions.

I have never thought to ask that or read about Honda ATF because I thought any manufacturer would have different weights of tranny fluid. That is ridiculous that Honda has only 1 weight. There should be at least 2, 3 ideally. Whatever I will just do a 3 quart drain and fill whenever weather permits.

There are different specifications of transmission fluid - not different weights.
i.e. Dexron III, CHrysler ATF+4, Ford Mercon V, Honda Z-1, Esso LT71141 (for the European ZF trannies)
Huh? I must have misunderstood or been told wrong. Oh well like I said I will just do a drain and fill with 3 quarts of Honda Z1. I'll do this when I get the pulleys installed, car should be running in top form then.
