Unhappy okay I'm f*cked -- help.....

After pulling the instrumental cluster out and swapping out the lights, I wanted to do the same for the odometer (where it displays milages, trip, door status etc)...well everything else worked great but I screwed in the odometer and now it is not working Damnnnn...

I have to buy it and replace it. That piece costs $250 or so...but if I replace it, will my milage goes to zero? How do I put my original number back??

I think you can bring it to the dealer and they will put the original number of miles back in for you.

I don't think anyone can change the odometer settings. Messing with it is a federal offense.

the dealer as well as any spedometer repair shop will have a device to program the new odometer to the correct millage. They will place a federal sticker on the drivers door jam which legalizes everything

The dealership will "burn in" the mileage. My roomate had this done on his Audi, they basically hook the thing up and program in the mileage. THe dealership did tell him that they couldn't get the exact same mileage and that they may be off a couple of miles one way or the other.

I thought the mileage was stored in the computer, so when you plug in the new odometer the correct milage reads. I've heard people try to unplug the odometer and when they plug it back in the original mileage comes up. Not completely sure though.

yeah that's if you unplug and plug the original back in. If you take the original out and put the new one in, it'll be "000"

If you replace it with a new unit..it will show "000000" it is NOT stored anywhere else (i.e ECU). And tampering with it by adjusting the mileage in anyway is a federal offense. but who would notice? haha... just make sure you be honest about ur mileage.. :p

One simple solution. Refer this matter directly to your local dealer.
They will be able to help you better than we can.
