1. The manual asks 5w20, but here I only see 5w30 sythetic, is that ok for our TL?

2. I have 4000 miles ( most are local miles)on my TL, and the oil in it is still the "factory break-in" oil. So should I change it out cox of the 4000 miles, or I should let the "break-in" oil sit in there longer?

5w30 is just fine, actually thats what most people use. You can go at least 7000 miles on synthetic - maybe a little less on regular.

No but you could. I didn't. I changed at 3750 with Dino. At 7500 I put M1 5w30 and will now do so every 7500mile interval

 

I replaced my factory oil at 7.500 w/ Mobil 1 5w30. I then changed my oil at 15K. I now change my oil and rotate my tires at the same time every 5,000 miles, easy to remember. Also, most of my miles are rough city miles, so there is a bit more "wear and tear" than normal.

Costco sells 6 quarts (1case) for under $24. I heard someone talking about a full oil change w/ Mobil 1 at Walmart for $35 which is hard to believe, but will check out soon cuz that sounds like a good deal!!

 

i change my mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 at every 10 k now. i had it tested at 8000 miles of use and it was still in good condition

 

I just did my oil change today; used the new Mobil 1 Racing 0W-30. It's got a really high TBN so it'll easily go over 5K miles until the next oil change. The engine in the TL is super easy on oil so 7.5K on synthetic is a cakewalk.

 

I agree, I changed mine for Mobil 1 at 15K, so far I'm happy, feels like it runs smoother. Also I use K&N oil filter, I already put 2K over the 15K and I look at the oil and it looks like I just changed, great combo.

 

walmart does the synthetic change for $35.

 

Castrol GTX comes in a 5/20wt. The local Kragens sells it for $1.99/qt and often has it for $1.49 with a coupon. I change the oil every 3K miles.

I am coming up to 30K and plan on doing the sevice the service. Change oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, clean/re-oil K&N air filter, rotate tires plus various "check this, inspect that". Dealer wants $390 - I don't think so.
