Question oil change question

search search search i know but i haven't found out how to use the search fn effectively yet. generally i've been having the shop do my dino oil changes but ever since i've been modding my car I thought why pay someone to do it when I can do it myself? so my question is what brand of synth oil do you guys recommend? amsoil? royal purple? mobile? etc etc. are there any out there that will last a year before i have to change it again or is that not recommended?

I use Mobil1 cause I can buy it at Costco. Most people will either say it doesn't matter, or RP.

As for 1 oil change per year.... are you that lazy? It's not good for the car, oil needs to be changed every 6 months regardless of mileage. It's your car to do with as you please, but no oil is recommended for a year.

And searching isn't that hard... Here is a quick step-by-step.

1) Click Search in the top right
2) Type "Oil Change"
3) Read the 5000 threads that will pop up with the same question you just asked.

it doesn't let me include 'oil' in the search so it ends up searching just for 'change' which as you can imagine not very helpful on a car forum..

Search for OIL*

The search engine won't allow you to search for three (3) character strings, but will let you wildcard for them (i.e. RSX* NSX* etc).

You can use google specifically on this site alone (tl.acurazine.com):

Just put in "achen0122 site:tl.acurazine.com" (without the double quotes) in google to find all the occurances of achen0122 on cl.acurazine...

Or Cocoa could put in "EGR site:tl.acurazine.com" to get all the occurances of EGR...

You can exclude specific keywords too using google. Just kick on the "advanced search" button on the google from page after running "keyword site:xxx.com" search... or "egr -purge site:cl.acurazine.com" to see all the threads with egr but skipping all the ones that mention purge.

Also (with larger words also) "Mobil1" use the advanced search and select 2nd gen to narrow things down

Royal Purple all the way. i used to use it for everything on my Silverado when i had it and i now use it for my oil on my TL. Trucks magazine tested royal purple, transmission fluid differential and engine oil, gave 5hp at the dyno.I change it at most every 3 months, well it depends how much you drive, 3000 miles is not necessary its just a way to get you to spend money.

Regarding time, there are three chevron employees who live in my community. All three of them tell me they change their oil once/year. They drive about 15K/year.

One of them put 300k on an Acura legend with no major issues, certainly nothing motor wise. She now drives a 2001 TL. All are using regular motor oil.

There is a way to get your oil tested to determine if it's goodies are all used up. I've got samlpes to see what it's like when I hit 125k. I'll send them a sample and see what kind of life was left on it.

black stone labs I believe it is. My wife says the font looks like cold stone icream place.
