oil change at 5,000 miles?
Hi all,
I got my TL-S back in March and its now at 5,000 miles and I've yet to change the oil. Should I have it changed now or wait til 7,500 as the manual suggests? Am I causing any damage by not having my first oil change done within 3,000 miles, as is the norm? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I changed my first oil at 7000. It was all highway driving for me. I left it in there longer than I normally would, since I've heard the manufacturers leave some special additives in the oil the car comes with. That may be myth, but who knows. I say go ahead and change it at 5000, especially if you do city driving or stop and go.
I've since then gone to synthetic and change my oil and filter every 5000 miles.

I change the oil on my cars every 5K miles--majority of my driving isn't stop-and-go. I figure that 5K is a good compromise between 3K conditions and 7.5K conditions, plus it's easier to remember when to change if the intervals are at an easy-to-remember figure like 5K as opposed to 3K.

I do not understand this issue at all but there must be a reason why the TL Owner's Manual explicitly says that the oil should not be changed before the first 7500 miles. If they didn't mean it, they would not say it so explicitly, I think.
