oil change - 3500 or 7500 miles?
My TL has 4000 miles on it. On the manual it says that an oil change is only necessary every 7000-7500 miles not sure unless driven under harsh conditions. I got a sticker on my windshield saying 3500 miles next scheduled oil change. How many of u guys get it on the 3500 or do most of u wait till 7500?

depends on your driving condition. If you fall into any of the condition listed on the manual then do that one. I did the 3750 miles one because I don't drive very far to work and it can't hurt to change before you suppose to...just cost you a little more. But mine is probably fall under harsh condition than normal ones.

If this is your first oil change, I believe the manual says change the oil at 7500 miles. Then after that it's up in the air. Some people say every 3000 miles, some say every 3750 miles, and some say every 90 days. It all depends on the type of driving you do, at least IMO.

Oil/filter aren't expensive. If you intend to keep your car for a while and want it to run in top running codition, change it every 3000 miles or so. If you are using synthetic, change it around 5000 miles or so.

I don't remember it saying anywhere to change your first oil at 7500. Just that don't change your oil for first 600 miles. After that you can change whenever for your driving condition. I remember some crazy dude on here change oil as soon as he got the car not sure who

This is where I THOUGHT I saw someone saying to do the first oil change at 7500 miles: http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005716.html
However, this thread didn't imply that the FIRST one is at 7500 miles. I could have sworn I read that somewhere else though. Oh well, shame on me. I bought my TL with 35,000 on it so I obviously don't have this issue. Personally, I go with 90 days or 3000 miles, whichever comes first.

when you first get the car, you should change it after the first 3000 miles because since its a new car, the engine is breaking in and there are going to be minute pieces of metal in the oil. then, after you change it for the first time, then change it again after 3000 miles. subsequent oil changes can then be 7500 miles, if you like.

Please read the maintenance schedules in your owner's manual. First oil change under normal driving conditions is at 7500 miles, and at 3750 for severe driving conditions.
I concur with all of you who believe that changing the oil more frequently than recommended cannot hurt the engine. After all, oil is cheap and the engine is not.
HOWEVER, I have to respectfully disagree with those of you who are recommending the FIRST oil change before 7500 miles (or 3750 miles, depending on your driving conditions). Under the section in the manual about breaking in the car, there is a language that specifically advises against changing out the oil before the recommended interval. As explained to me, there is an additive in the factory oil that needs to do its job. By prematurely changing out the oil, you are not doing your car a favor.
After the first oil change, the recommendation in the owner's manual is to change it at every 7500 mile interval (or 3750 miles, depending on your driving conditions). Here, I would deviate from what is recommended in the manual, and probably change it more often. Say, every 3750 for conventional oil, and at 5000 miles for synthetic.
Again, there is no harm done by changing the oil too often, EXCEPT in the case of the first oil change because the factory oil contains additives that needs 7500 miles to do its job under normal driving conditions.
Sorry for the long post, but I just don't know where some of you are getting your information when recommending the first oil change earlier than recommended. Having subscribed to the every 3000 miles or 3 months rule of thumb for years with past cars, 7500 miles seems like a lot of miles before changing the oil, but until someone can point to a reliable source for changing it out earlier, I will be following the manual's recommendation, and I suggest the same for those of you who are undecided.
3.2-TL: I wouldn't pay much attention to the sticker the dealer puts on your window saying 3500 miles, because all they care about is hitting you up for another oil change.

This is why I suggested posting a specifications and service chart on this web site last week. That way if anyone has a question like this, it will be on this site, scanned in from the owner's manual, and nobody will have to rely on poorly researched or incorrect advice (no offense to those who posted here). I posted this suggestion before and NOBODY responded. Any thoughts now (Including you moderators)...

Dude I did my first oil change at 1000 miles and I have no problems with the car...the car runs nice and smooth as before...seems like there are people who care about their TL more than I do, and they have vibrations and other problems, with this in mind, it really doesnt matter too much when you do it...I say at least wait 3000 miles before your first oil change...

Yep...devils right. Its called break in oil..not as slippery as the oil you use on a regular basis. Allows the rings to seat properly against the cylinder walls. Thats the main issue. You wont notice it until you get miles on your engine but that is why it is in there. I will be using the 5w-20 that the manual suggests also.
