OEM spark plugs
#4
I went to an Autozone tonight and they said the OEM NGK plugs are $2 each. I was a little surprise that they were so cheap. The guy said it cost the same in the dealership. He doesn't have any in stock, but I can order them. Is $2 the regular price for plugs?

If you go with Densos, you should get IK20's for a type S and IK16's for a TL-P.

I went with the advice on the board and did research of each plug makers website.
Iridium is the way to go NGK were $45 for 6 thats about 7 each.
Purchased at KRAGEN- autozone did not carry them
The Denso has a cheaper electrode and last about 30k miles.
The NGKs will go 70- 100 k miles.
After changing the plugs you will be glad to not do it again!
OE is not the best- but simply the part the car maker can buy cheapest in bulk
Same applies to the oil filter K&N or Mobil1 oil filters WAY better than OE

They are 2 different plugs
You want the straight Iridium NGK as told by everyone here.
The LASER ones make use of laser welding technology for the electrode.
Its going a step beyond for certain uses. Not our cars.
Our TLs love the NGK, owners love only changing plugs once and having great performance.

Switching from OE plugs to NGk IRIDIUMs at 70k miles and first tank of fuel- mileage up .5 mpg. Small number by itself, but added to total miles driven/gallons used per month, and the expected rise in retail fuel prices ($2.95 gallon here today) and it does help.
Spend a little now - 50 bucks- and save all year long.

I agree 100% OEM is not the best, its what works. What works better is NGK Iridium IX plugs. K&N and Mobil1 oil filters are great, but Amsoil Ea filters are top notch, but cost 15-18.00 a piece.

I changed my plugs when I dropped the car, NGK IX's, cost me about 45 bucks for the 6 at advance auto parts, they didnt have it at autozone cause it was special order now. He said the laser ones dont really make a difference but the IX's I believe he said were OEM. The car starts way better now, dont have to have the key turned that much and turns on quick too.
