odometer foul play?

Is there a way for a dealer to disconnect the odometer in the car and still have the trip odometer run ?

I just had my tranny replaced and while the regular odometer is a few miles higher as expected, the trip odometer is +500

What was the mileage when your car went in for replacing the tranny ? How long was it at the dealership for this work ? Have you asked the service manager about the discrepancy ? I'm sure that they had to do some testing of the new tranny, which would account for some odometer mileage being added. Are you sure that you had both of the "trip" readings cleared prior to this work ? I realize that I've not answered your question, but you don't want to falsely accuse them. Undoubtebly, there's a way to technically defeat the odometer's sensor, if one had the knowledge. But why would they even risk to do such a thing ? If all else is well and the dealership replaced your faulty tranny for free..........what's the gripe about unless they possibly went for an extended joyride over the weekend ?

No there isn't a way to do that. Are you sure the trip A or B isn't selected instead?

--> me

Sorry, it's been a long work week.

Overall, I'm happy. Talked to Service Manger, he gave me his reassurance. I thanked him and his staff for everything.

Car is solid as a rock again Shifts are tight. I forgot how much I love the car.

And what does it mean when the bolts are painted green ? I thought when they replace the tranny, they painted them blue.

Glad to hear you've come to peace with the dealership. You've got a tranny replaced free which will hopefully give you many more years of great satisfaction from your TL. Apparently you've been stressed enough to even check out the new tranny's bolt "colors". Don't sweat it, just drive and enjoy your rejuvenated car. By the way, Homer's wrong: just gun your motor, the world or your TL's tranny won't come to an end ! Ha, ha...lighten up.
