Octane: does premium burn cooler?

No. The only aid in this situation is that premium fuel often comes with alittle more fuel system cleaner type additives (like Techron) but otherwise would be a waste of money. Most heat is lost thru the water jacket and the spark plug, the oil and the air. Concentrate in those areas to reduce heat.

Additives are present in all types of fuel. The difference in different grade of fuels are the amount of octanes...higher octane rating burns SLOWER than lower ones..thus prevent detonation (pinging) in highly tuned, timing advanced engine.

Ur question is rather ambiqutous.
1) 93 octane will not burn cooler nor hotter than 87 octane. They will burn "THE "same temp.
2) 93 octane will burn "AT " a higher temp than 87 octane. In this situation 93 octane will burn "cooler" then what it was designed for.
There will be NO advantage of using 93 octane in a car that designed for 87 octane.
Octane is just a rating. Since TL and TL-S have high compression ratio, 9.8:1 and 10.5:1. this meaning that the volume in the cylinder will be compressed 9.8 times of the original volume. The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. Higher octane means that it will take a higher temperature to ignite the fuel. When you have high compression ratios like the TL, you don't want the fuel to self ignite...this is what causes pinging and knocking...however, TL have a system to control this, if you put a lower octane rating then what is suppose to have, the computer will automtically adjust to elimiate the pinging and knockiing.

But if yor get your hands gaz-ohol - up to 8% + ethenol- ( still with an octane rating of 91 +)... it will burn cooler.... just because of the alcohol... (readely available at McEwen in eastern Ontario..)

The octane that your car uses has nothing to do whether ur car has vtec or not....depends on ur compression ratio. Vtec engines have higher compression ratio therefore requiring higher octane. If you look at the Acura RL, it DOESN"T have a VTEC engine but it requires octane 91.
Yes you can use 89 octane on the TL, but it is not recommended....the car will adjust to the lower octane, constants use of lower octane can damage ur engine, you will notice a decrease in performance.

Sorry,
My question had nothing to do with the mechanics of a TL.
I was just curious, since I couldn't find anything about it on the internet.
Thanks guys,
You've helped me figure it out.
