OBD Code Reader Recommendations

Hi All :

I need to purchase an OBDII scanner. I first thought of getting just a basic unit for <$100 but then I started thinking beyond the TL as this will be a tool I would probably use on future cars. I have a couple of questions.....

1) There seems to be a big price difference when you add the "live data" function. I'm assuming that allows you to capture codes in real-time if you have a persistent problem. Is this feature worth the additional ~ $50 ?

2) The ability to capture ABS codes is available on some units. Will this help diagnose TCS light issues on our cars ?

3) Can you drive with the unit plugged in and if yes, is there an OBD unit that can also measure fuel consumption/MPG in real-time ?

I would also like to hear from anyone who bought a particular unit and thinks it's PFM.

Thanks to all who reply.
