Number of TLs sold in US?

where can I get some automotive statistics on the number of cars sold in the us? trying to do some homework here...

gotta write a paper and need some hardcore facts..

i think if you look at the last 3 or 4 digits of your vin that's the number of your tls. if that's the case mine is 676
