Unhappy Not sure where this goes

I have a fire pepper red 99 TL. I bought it a few months ago, and noticed that it had pinstriping, it didn't really bother me at first, but now, I want it off. So I went out to my car and was going to peel that shit off, only to realize that the pinstriping is painted on. Then I thought maybe I can scratch it off, but no, it's under the clear coat. What the hell am I supposed to do about that. I know I can get the car repainted, but that'll cost a couple bucks, which is more than I can afford. Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you've pretty much already evaluated the situation. You're not about to wet sand down the clear coat to get at the painted stripe so you're going to have to leave it on. I suppose if its the color of the stripe that bothers you most, you can maybe have a good striper with a steady hand paint a new stripe color over top of it. Just throw some nice rims on the car to distract the eye from the stripe!

I must say I have not heard of too many cars that have a clearcoat over even a painted stripe. My guess is the car was repainted somewhere along the way and the shop did the stripe before the topcoat.

On the trunk under the 3.2TL there is a signature of who ever did the pinstriping. It doesn't really look that bad, it's just that I don't want it on there. Especially when I debadge it, there will be some guys sig still, to me that would look pretty lame. Does any one know how much it would cost to get the car repainted?

I'm not a professional painter or anything, but there is no obvious difference in the paint other than the color of the striping....... I'm not sure if that made sense, but I guess I'm trying to say that the paint is flush even where the striping is.

It's not under the clearcoat. TLs do not come from the factory striped.

The pinstripe paint includes a clearcoat in with the base coat.

If you really want it removed, find a body shop or detailer and they will remove it. Either wetsand or using an abrasive compound and a buffer.

That wont hurt it. there is enough on to wetsand and polish out. Odds are thats what hes going to have to do is wetsand it off and have it polished . very easy to do.

Umm I'll try to take pics of tonight and then post them tomorrow..... that's if I remember of course.
Also, no one answered about cost for repainting my car. It has some areas that are chipped so....... I probably should get it repainted.

Hey I kinda posted this thing a long time ago but as you can see I never heard anything about it. Just thought I would try one more time, then just let it go. I have gotten used to the stripes, but haveing them off would be alot better. Unless of course some one can convince me other wise. Oh and by the way..... these pics dont do the car justice. It looks a lot better than that..... well not a whole lot.

Just try to be a little careful with that As for getting your car painted, having it done professionally will run you 1500-2000 for a well done paint job here. You can always get a 400 dollar job where they just paint over your car but please dont do that to your Acura... Itll chip 10 days from then anyways.

You could prep the car yourself (remove the paint, sand and prime) and go in for the cheap paintjob.. my friend did that and his paint is holding up for a few years now.

i think the word "rice" is getting too much play on this forum, how is a painted pinstripe rice?, not like it says Powered By Honda or some bs on it.

Trust me I dont like it either........ but I just cant seem to figure out how this is ricey. Maybe "ricey" was chosen for the lack of a better word, either way, I'll try wet sanding it hopefully that will work, if not then I"ll just deal with it. Hell, I have for this long......right? At least I know that someone once loved this car enough to have it pinstriped.

well if you dont know what your doing with wetsanding and polishing i might leave it to a professionl. Like i said before, if its painted on top of the paint (which it most likely is) it can be wetsanded and buffed out. If you want to try you can get 1500 grit sanding blocks and try wetsanding them out. Then you just have to polish the area back to a shine
