Not sure of what to do....

I'm new here and in about a week or 2 I am going to buy 2002 TL-S

I have been an Acura fan for about 3 years and I just WANT the 2002 TL-S but then this question came up....

My question, Should I wait for the 2003 model? I have no clue what it will look like or its specs, and when it will be out (important)

I am planning on buying it not leasing (which makes me think about another thing). I am somewhat worried about the transmission as I have read the previous posts and know people that had problems with it.

I can't imagine Acura not redesigning the TLS too. If you could wait, then wait it out.

to answer your question

new TL is coming out in 2003 as a 2004 model
TL-S will probably not come out until 1 year later
hope this helps

if you want a TL-s... buy this one. cause the new model TL-s shouldn't be out for atleast a year and half... maybe 2. usually type-s or upgrades in engines usually lag about a year from the new models.

My disclaimer

Since Honda hasn't made any official announcement, anything I say should not be taken as gospel. Having worked with a few of the automakers, I get info directly and also from industry publications.

To answer the original post, if you're the type that changes cars every 3 years, get the TL-S, it truly is an amazing car for $30k. If you keep your cars for a long time, wait.

Save yourself a headache and just wait it out (if you can).

Why launch TL-S later...

Kind of like BMW releasing the 3-series, they update and launch varying trim levels year by year to keep interest high over the lifetime of a model.

It depends on how long you can wait to get your new Type-S.
I have owned a couple of Maximas, Avalon, LS400.....
My Type-S is the most fun car to drive.

its not a question of the TL-s getting a redesign. thats pretty obvious that it would. but like most other companies.. acura will probably not release the new TL-s with the new TL. this would interfere in the sale of the base model TL. this is why you didn't see the TL-s come out when the new TL weren't designed. that and they probably were ready for it. but lets just look at back at other companies...since history has a little annoying characteristic of repeating itself. BMW's 3-series and 5-series....the M class of those two are not released when the base models are redesigned. Mercedes C, E, S, and ML classes. the AMG series of those lag roughly 10 months from the first redesigns. Ford's Mustang.... Saleens dont show up at the same time. and even our cousin the Honda civic. the SI didn't show up for.. i believe it was about 8 months. OF COURSE THE TL-S will be redesigned. Just a matter of how long will Acura take. the longer the better.

I don't know if this is a good example.... but have you seen the new Dodge Ram 1500 truck? It's complete new design but the 2500 and 3500 models won't be changed until next year at the earliest. Someone else also mentioned about the BMW 3 series... When the newer body style came out... the convertible didn't go along for, what seem like, over a year. I mentioned in another tread regarding this same topic... I think, if anything... the CL will change first, and then TL another year later...

.....that's just my prediction

when the tl was redesigned in '99, i'm sure they weren't ready for a type-s model.

when the redesigned cl came out, both the cl and type-s came out the same time.

but when the pseudo-redesign of the tl for '02 came out, both the tl and tl-s came out.

so i'm sure the only reason the tl-s came out when it did was so it would coincide with the facelift because they had it ready then, but i'm sure they didn't have it ready in '99.

You should also take a look at the Pet Peeve page on here, and see if the things that people complain about are going to bug the heck out of you, or things you wont notice.
That's more important than what the car will look like, IMO.

Thanks for the info

Well I don't think I will have any problems finding the hole.....key-hole that is

As far as other things they seem minor to me. No car is perfect for $30K and I think that Acura TL-S is the best in its class....thats why I am here

The most thing that probably worries me is the transmision, even though there is a warranty on the car and everything but I read here that people's tranny broke more than once after replacement.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll be getting my car during the first 10 days of January

as i heard, the new TL may come out as a 2004 model
but not sure if they will beef up the base model for 02.5.05 coz the new Honda Accord is on the way and rumors say they will have a 240HP V6.
