Noise when first starting?

SOrry for the dual post... I also notice immediately after starting my '02 TL-S that within about 30 seconds, usually while turning the steering wheel, there is a "grunt" noise from the engine bay. It sounds like a motorized valve closing/opening. This happens after every start. Normal?

it's the abs system. we all have it so don't worry about it, you'll get used to it.

Yup its the ABS. Every abs equiped car does it in one way or another. Some do it as soon as the car is turned on. Some do it the first time you press the brake, and some do it after you have been driving for a lil bit.

I can't believe the number of people that have asked this question. What, is this everyone's first car with ABS? My '93 Nissan Sentra SE-R did it and my '97 Nissan Maxima SE does it. So did my wife's '94 Geo Prizm and my mom's '96 Mazda 626. I'm not trying to slam anybody--I just figured this would be common knowledge by now, like the dinging for the seatbelt reminder in cars doesn't surprise anyone anymore.

I asked because my '94 Camaro Z28 and my '91 Pontiac Firebird didn't make it. Both w/ABS.

TLatVULS, please don't think I was singling you out--I wasn't. You're not the first one to ask this by a long shot, and I've yet to see a car with ABS *not* do it. That's surprising the that GM F-bodies don't do it. A friend of mine has a '99 Z28 and it does it as well.

Talking

I didn't think you were. I was just saying this was *my* first experience with "the noise." Maybe it was because the flowmaster on the Z28 and Firebird I had just drowned it out.

it varies with the car and the abs system design.
