Noise like acorns rolling

I have a 2002 TL-S. We have an oak tree on the property and the TL-S is sometimes parked near the tree. I have this noise like acorns rolling when we drive the car.

I've checked the cabin air intake below the windshield and it is clear. I've taken the engine cover off and blown everything out. I've removed the cabin air filter and vacuumed that out. It almost sounds like it is in the door on the passenger side, but when the door is opened/closed there is no noise. I've checked the sunroof for any acorns, but nothing.

Could the acorns be in the passenger side fascia under the door sill? Has anyone else had this problem?

Hehehe.... poor TL-S has acorns roaming around in it, sorry that's just funny hah. Try the fascia like you said, that sounds like a prime spot.

There is a valve under the dash that makes a clicking/ticking sound when it starts to go bad. Mine does it occationally . That might be the source of your noise. It's located to the upper left of a passenger's side left foot. Next time you hear the noise check out that electric valve. It adjusts a door on the heating / air conditioning system.

there are many places they could be. The hard art is tracking the noise down to a specific area. Did you completely remove the plastic cowl guard (under the wipers) and inspect in there

Its possible that some little animal stuffed them in a exposed section of frame, or under the plastic splash guards.

I didn't competely remove the plastic cowl guard. I hoped that I could see through the holes if there were anything there. It appears pretty clean in there. It seems that the noise happens on accleration/deceleration rather than when turning L/R which makes me believe that it is elsewhere.

I have a feeling that the damn chipmunks did stash acorns in the frame or fascia.

Thanks.

I don't have an acorn tree near me or anything...but I get the same thing sometimes...Its defiantely from the passenger side, but I haven't put alot of time into tracking it down cause if I have music on I can't hear it. I'm not really sure where its coming from but today especially before reading this it aggravated me...are Forster Bittner and me the only 2 who have this problem??

I had that EXACT same issue with the noises like "acorns" u r describing. From the passenger side, look behind the carpet (to the left of glove box) and u will see this:

006 79160-S0K-A01 MOTOR ASSY., AIR MIX 1 1999 TL 121.00 96.80

This is an air/mix control (Item #6) that controls your temperature with the climate control. I guarantee you after u replace it, there will be no more issues. Very simple to do, a 15 minute DIY.

GEE=SEE ABOVE=It's located to the upper left of the passenger's side left foot. Sit in the car=see where your left foot is? Now look to the upper left of where your foot is. If you adjust the temp. control with the car running say from 60 to 85 you'll see the switch open the door and if it starts clicking=THAT"S IT! EASY to replace.

So do you just put it on cruise control at 60 mph crouch over the passenger seat and then look to see if it clicks?

It will make the sound at Idle. Speed of the car has nothing to do with it. Mine car does this on an intermitant basis. Heater Unit = Part #6. Go to a junk yard. You can order it online from an Acura Dealer for about $110.00. Print off the diagram above and go to a Junk yard.

The Temperature=DA? not the car speed

Yeah - I had some joker put a penny in my door years ago. It drove me nuts!

The Nissan dealership at the time didn't charge me anything to take the door panel off and remove the penny (I thought something had broken in the door).

I used to pour "BB's" in my friends doors to drive them nuts

I have the same problem you described with chipmunks and acorns. What was the resolution? Did you find the “acorns”? Where were they and how did you remove them? It’s driving me crazy!

I'd be very impressed if they responded 14 years later. My guess would be to check the splashguard, if you still have it installed, underneath the engine. That and underneath the plastic cover over the windshield wiper motors.

My dad told me it was the "damper" making that noise. If I had the temperature control between 75°-90° it wouldn't make the noise at all. Until, I got my AC fixed a few months ago it made the noise. After my AC was fixed it hasn't happened even once. Now, that it's getting cold my heat is only blowing COLD air. Originally, I was told it could be a bad heater core, clogged heater core or low coolant. All of which have been verified to not be the cause. Also, my heat worked until the AC was repaired. Any ideas?

Acorn Problem Solved

The problem turned out to be about 25 acorns that a squirrel stashed in the frame through drain holes barely bigger than an acorn. They don't fall out easily on their own. I ended up inserting a hose nozzle inside one of the drain holes and then allowing the water to drain and float the acorns out one at a time. It took 3 different attempts to get them out. I may still have one left but it doesn't roll around very often,
