No Navi In Canada
#3
Good question. From what i've heard, apparently Acura didn't think it was worth it to map Canada. I wonder about that myself.....i think most of us would have bought the navi option if available to us. I think even doing would not be enough for Acura being that our population is too small for them to justify producing a nav system for Canada.
It sucks.

It's all about the data provider, Navtech. They have been horribly behind the curve when it comes to the map database for OEMs. I'm sure if Acura has a reliable and comprehensive data source for Canadian maps they will add the Navi in their lineup there.
Hey, if Lexus can offer a navi in Canada, so can Acura.

I heard that they did not want to re-design the system and the maps to be bi-lingual (french and english) which is necessary if they were going to sell it in CANADA. Thought I read this on this forum.. but I might be wrong.
Maybe our US brothers (and sisters) could check for us if the navi has the ability to display the functions in other languages(spanish, french) and all thats needed are different (language) map DVD's. Then my above statement could be proven wrong.

Well, one reason is that they havn't map the whole Canada yet...
So, as far as I know, All Acura, and Lexus IS300 don't have navi option as they do in the states..
Acura gets their navi from Alpine I believe and alpine doesn't have the full map for Canada. So, I guess they decided that it's not worth it......

Not sure about BMW, but MB GPS does NOT cover whole Canada either, but still MB offers GPS as an option on ALL(except SLK)models....
Acura initially thought there will be NO demand for GPS, therefore, no GPS in Canada.....
But like Sam, I would get Nav for sure if it's available in Canada...

Why does not my Street Atlas (computer-based mapping software) have Canada on it either?
I think it's a license deal or just simply map availability or not. I doubt it has anything to do with demand. You don't have to have ALL of Canada mapped to offer it as the entire US is not mapped either.
