Nissan Engine Vs. Honda Engine

Having had the new TL for 3 weeks, I have been comparing the TL with my previous Maxima, and found the engine performs very differently from the engine on the Maxima.

Nissan Engine is much smoother than Honda's. For Nissan, if you hold the gas pedal at a certain position, the magnitude of power is constant, but for the Honda engine on my TL, if you hold the pedal, it feels like the power comes in frenquent "pulses". THere are 6-10 small "shocks" of acceleration coming in one second.

It just feel like the engine also has the "tapping" design used in ABS.:p

Any of you guys aware of this? Personally I still like Nissan engine better, because you can "fine-tune" the pedal action, thus the acceleration.

Having a '97 max and '02 TL I can say that I like the Honda engine better.
It sounds better and always seems to have power (except in 5th). The Maxima always finds itself in the wrong gear and doesn't want to drop down without giving it a lot of gas.

The power curve on the Maxima does seem a lit bit more liniar when you go 0-60. When you get around 4krpm on the TL you are begging for the VTEC to switch modes.

Despite all this they are both very good engines. I have 80k on the Maxima and the engine is still strong.

Powerful

Honda Engine seems unpredictable.

On Maxima, when you press the pedal twice the distance, then you know it is going to have doubled acceleration, but on TL, double pedal travel doesn't give you twice the acceleration,

rather, sometimes 2.5, sometimes 1.5....

I am still not quite used to Honda Pedal and Brakes,..

And under 3000rpm, TL engine seems struggling to overcome some great difficulty, once it gets above 300rpm, it revs more freely.

What on earth are you talking about, gainful? Just drive the damn car and quit complaining about something you can't properly describe.

I drove a '96 Maxima for the past six years before getting the TL-S. If anything, the Acura is smoother and more free revving. I have no idea about any "tapping" that you describe. Your TL must be defective. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

maximas love the light to light driving, tl's love to be revved and driven on the highway. I have a tl-p with intake/headers/catback/plugs and i ran my friends 02 se maxima from 30 to 100, and off the line he took me by a car and i caught up and passed him by the end of second gear.

I just traded my 2000 Maxima to for the 2003 TL-s.
I found the Maxima was too egar to spin the wheels and wasting power and hunting for gears. While the TL's VTEC, TSC and VSA is able to manage the 260 HPs better by putting the power to the ground with minimal wheels spin where it really counts. And the sequential SportShift makes fun.

Nissan is more smoother & Honda is more sporty.
Nissan seems to have more torque but when you get to 5000K RPM on honda, I kicks butt.

Honda has better engine technology. They produce lot more HP with small engine.

i think honda engines are smoother and sporty then the nissan's but the only downside on a honda engine is it's tq. Look at lexus, their just smooth, quiet, reliable and refine.

True True...what are you talking about , gainful? I also driven maximas, different years and both transmissions. Plus I have driven just about every honda car except for the NSX.

You sure you are not just feeling the road.

Well guys, we must also consider the weight of the cars being compared. And each engine is tuned differently. I think we can't say Honda engine Vs Nissan Engine. My CR-REX doesn't need to be revved fro speed cuz the damn thing is so light. They are both good engine to me.
