Question NEWBIE QUESTION From Toronto Canada

I did my homework and think I finally am convinced to grab the TL Type S, it is one sexy car! The only concerns I have are some of the posts here saying the paint is too thin, the car starts squeeking soon, it is built in Ohio not Japan, etc... should I worry about these things, or does every other car have similar probs etc... Also I don't know why but I can't find any TL's in Canada that have the Navigator!?! What's up with that... Am I not looking had enough? If it is not available in Toronto Canada could I get one in the states and bring it up, or would I pay through the nose?

Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

I've had my WDP/Parchment TL-S for about 3 months now and haven't had the rattles, noises, etc. that others have written about (knock on wood). I'm still more than pleased at the build quality and functionality!
I understand that the Navi option isn't available in Canada (and I didn't opt for it in mine), but there's a lot of enthusiasm on the board for this feature.
My compass helps out somewhat on my lost "missions"!

The Navi isn't available in Canada yet. Perhaps in the future, per Acura. Buying one in the states and taking it to Canada won't help you either because there are no mapped areas for Canada on the current DVD.

Thumbs up

Bought mine at Erin Mills Acura in March. I have had a couple of minor problems but none of the rattles, squeaks, transmission problems etc. It is a good car. Canadian model has some differences, most of which are a plus. Things like daytime running lights, 17x7 wheels (6.5 in the US), larger capacity washer container. I had a 99 before this one and this one is so much better. Even the non TL-S would be a good buy.

Post Canadian TL-S

As the people who have commented before me, the car on the most part is well built. I've logged a couple of trips to the dealership (Windsor Honda) to correct a loose trunk latch and rattling sunroof-- all minor repairs but time wasted having to wait at the service dep't.

The navigation unit is unavailable in Canada. It's just a great little toy for your car. No maps for Canada so it's pretty much useless for us. I would have preferred it if the car came with at least a compass like many domestic cars have in this price range. (A little guidance once in a while can't hurt)

I'm glad you are looking at a Type-S. Believe me, I did 6 months of searching (and saving up $$$) for my first car. So far, it's been nothing but pure fun!

Good luck on finding a good deal up in TO. It's hit or miss up there. (I posted this in a previous message but invoice for a Type-S in Canada is around C$37 800-- so try and get it around that price...)

The DVD media that most companies use is the same. There are maps but mostly along the spine that runs from Montreal to Toronto. If you venture off too far, you will run out of map. That is why most companies are waiting before offering the Navigation system on Canadian vehicles.

As an aside, if you really want one, your money will go a lot further buying one from Alpine, but then of course, it won't be as nicely integrated into your dash.
