Hello all. Great BB! First I've ever actually registered to. Good moderators. Lots of useful info here.
I'm getting ready to buy a TL-S, either blue or black. I haven't been able to see a blue one except the one that flies past me every now and then on my way home from work, but it looks nice - even as a blur.
I have a while yet - August target date. Waiting for the price to soften and to put away at least $10k for a down payment. I don't think I'll get too much in trade for my 90 Maxima SE. It just turned 205,000 miles, but it still runs like a top.
My daughter was sick tonight, and I told my wife I had a fever, too. TL-S FEVER! I may not make it till August.

First of all, welcome to the board!!
Secondly, August will be here before you know it. I originally was looking at the CL-S when it came out last March. I've bascially been wanting that car since last January when it was unveiled at the car show. Now I want a TL-S (since March of this year), but I'm holding off until June / July. Well, it's already May!! Don't worry, just stay on this site and read about everyone elses car. Look at the pictures too. That should hold you over!!

Thanks for the welcome, juniorbean.
It's being on this board reading about and seeing pictures of everyone else's cars that makes it hard to wait. But it'll have to do for now.
I'm setting $29.5 as my "gimme the keys!" price (w/o nav, incl. dest.). I know that's at the low end of the scale from what I've read here, but I am a pretty seasoned negotiator (i.e., old and crusty). Or am I being unrealistic? There are only two Acura dealers here.

8ball,
Welcome aboard. Your price is not possible, just need to do more leg works. But with only 2 Acura dealers it is kind of hard. In S. Cailfornia, well in San Fabriel Valley at least, dealers are pretty much sell the car at MSRP. The most I heard is $1000-$1500 discount. Try carsdirect.com and put it in your zip code and see how is the price comes out. Good Luck.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.
Maybe it'll help that one of the Acura dealers here is on a "dealer's row." There are Lexus, Infiniti, Volvo, VW, Nissan and Honda dealers all within walking distance. Otherwise, I'll have to go at least 200-250 miles to the next nearest Acura dealer. If that's what it takes, I won't hesitate, 'cause I know I'll be grinnin' all the way home (on the back roads, of course)!!

Welcome 8ball! You should be able to get that price today. With nav but without options, tax and license, I got $2,000 off MSRP on March 24. Unfortunately, I won't yet name the dealer but my contract is shown on my recent post: "Pics?". The price shown includes deflector, mudguards, wheel locks and burlwood knob.
Since you are sincere, make sure they know you intend to wait until August and you may get it now. Otherwise, wait until August 1st before you ever look at this board again or you may rush out and pay MSRP

8Ball,
I don't think that that price is unreasonable at all, especially in August. I'm actually planning on getting either at invoice, or close to it. There are several dealers around here and I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve . Hopefully they will work. You should just pretend you're really interested in a Lexus or Infinity, etc. That way, they'll be afraid to let you leave w/o buying one at your price!!

Sure you're being realistic; I did it. I am in South Florida so price reductions in other geographical locations may vary. Also demand in your buying area is a factor. I have seen only one other TL-S on the streets I drive so maybe the dealers here need to move some cars; who knows. All I know is I jumped on my deal when they "dangled" it in front of me.

That was my price ($29.5K for non NAV, Type S, WDP/Parchment), so it's a definite possibility for a future purchase (August, 01?). Keep a good thought - there are lower prices around the corner! Best of luck on the negotiations!

Welcome to the board 8ball.
And the fact that there are only two Acura dealerships in your area shouldn't hurt too bad in your negotiations. Don't let the dealership know how much you want the Acura, let them know you are considering Infiniti or BMW. And of course be prepared to go out of state.
Good Luck.

Kansas Cty accepted my offer of $30,750 on a CL S W/Nav 04/30/01. Car has $300 of stuff I didn't want to talk about until I bought the car. Everything is dealer installed and none of them have the same prices. Ask about document fees before you give them your price. I have been quoted $46, $50, $99.95 and KC, Mo. is $150.95. He wants $100 for the $300's worth of options (all season floor mats (rubber), trunk tray, wheel locks and mud guards). CL's come with front, they added rears. And he will split the doc fee. So he wants $175 more than my $30,750. $30,731 is 2% over invoice (4% over cost).
Northern Giorgia accepted an offer of $31,250 for a TL S w/Nav or $30,750 for a CL S w/Nav plus document fee. Their "document fee" is $299.50. Which is coincidently about 1% of the dealer invoice on the TL S. I show $31,243 as 2% over invoice.

All of this is good info to know. It sounds like there's a general willingness to deal. Knowledge is power.
tired: good call on the "document fees." I once walked out of a dealership when, after I had negotiated the price I wanted, the salesman wrote up the contract and added a $50 "document fee." When I questioned it, he blew me off with: "You're not going to let a standard $50 doc fee keep you from getting this car, are you?" As I was getting up, I said: "We negotiated and agreed on a fair price for me and a fair profit for you. Now you want to just reach in my pocket and grab another $50? Bye." Same price, NO doc fee at the next dealer. It's just ADP (additional dealer profit).
My $29.5 target (incl. dest. fee) is about 3% over invoice ($870 to be exact). That's more than fair, IMO, and the dealer gets another 2% holdback (but they don't like to talk about it). Anyway, that's the price at which I will still feel fine about the deal. Anything below that is gravy. And I WILL start below that. As long as they're straight with me, and don't try to b.s. me, we'll get along fine and we'll all be happy. Honesty breeds loyalty.
(sorry for the cliches)

I am from MA and I got my TL-S with NAV, moonroof visor, mud guards, and wheel locks for 31,200. I definitely could have gone lower but I told them I would give them 29,000 and my 93 integra LS with 123,000 miles on it. The car need about 2-3K worth of work. I dended up getting it for $29,500 and the Integra. The best way to do this is to go to www.liquidprice.com, www.priceline.com, www.expedia.com, www.autobytel.com, www.cars.com, www.edmunds.com and have the dealers outbid eachother. I knocked off almost 4k before I even stepped into a dealership. Let me know how you make out and good luck!!

Man!! Y'all are great.
This is gonna be fun.
Think I can get the dealer to throw in one of those "Elephant Man" shift knobs to increase my driving pleasure? http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/007452.html

Acura 3200 I got a whole lot of more info.
I've been lurking since the 1st week of February. Wife totaled a Legend on Feb 18. Missed the Daytona 500. Spent the whole afternoon at the hospital. Broke her foot in half after it slipped off the brake. Other drivers fault. Been an invalid for 9 weeks walking w/crutches the past 2 weeks so I've been on here getting educated between feeding, cleaning, laundry, bathing and whatever. I will share a spread sheet in microsoft excel with whoever wants it after I finish my deal. 27 dealers In, Il, Ky, Mo, Oh and Tn. Compared 2001 TL, 2001 CL / CL S, 2002 TL and TL S with and without Navigation.
IMAX Honda/Acura is 2%. I don't approach the 2%, but I tell them I'm not going to but whe are going to discuss the other 8.8% on the CL S w/navigation to the 10.8% on the TL S wo/navigation between dealer invoice an MSRP.
THE PHANTOM Hard to get a true picture with a trade involved.

btw, I guess I don't really HAVE to wait until August, it's just that I was trying to do a little financial planning, and it's really a birthday present to myself. I mean, I do have responsibilities.... Oh, what the hell, where's my checkbook?
