Hi got a question to ask you guys. I have a 2003...sigh 2003 Acura TL S... at 34000 miles....hahaha about 3 days after I did the 30,000 mile service my transmission died on me. That was Feb 28th and I got the car back on March 6th. I had the car towed to Cerritos Acura, and drove a serious POS car from enterpirse for a week.
Regardless of the bad expierence on the rental, got the car back, was happy. But anyone know why they changed the ECU? Also for all you guys that have the transmission failure did you also get the ECU changed? If so did the car seem slower to you and also shift at lower RPM's?
If this is so I feel that we got cheated from Honda Motors in that they sold us a defective car and the solve the problem they basically detuned the ECU which controlls the engine and transmission performance.
Any responses would be appreciated. I also did a search, I recall something about ECU's but figured it would be eaiser to post and get your opinions and possible some anwers.
thanks a bunch
Oh anyone else need to get a 3rd tranny even with the the new ecu?

I have had my tranny swapped as well, and I didn't notice any loss of power, nor a drop in the shiftpoints at WOT (wide open throttle).
If you truly ARE noticing a lower rpm shift point pattern, you have every right to be pissed off... this car was sold to us under the assumption that is could safely, and reliably shift at 6900-7100 rpms at each shift... and do it again and again all day long under the original manu's warranty.
How have you diagnosed your problem?

the new ecu doesnt detune the engine, try disconecting the battery for a while to reset the ecu then go out and drive it a while. floor it a bunch of times and see if it helps.

Hmm I think I will try that out...but I believe they already disconnected the battery when they did the transmission and ECU swap.
Also does anyone know as to why they changed the ECU?

i just got mine changed 2 weeks ago, so i know what you guys are talking about. they didnt detune anything, instead they have the ecu attempt to use more power of the engine, about 100 rpms to help it shift better. also, the reason the car would bark from 1-2 shift before was because the shift wasnt smooth. the new tranny does a much smoother shift and therefore it will not be such a "sudden" hit of power.
in fact, when i bought this car, i always thought something is wrong with the tranny. the shift from 1-2 should not be so hard. everyone would always ask me why it did that. i would say that the new ecu isnt detuned, but it does take away some of the power just before the shift. doubt it affects us more than 1/10 of a sec on the quarter mile if any

Reading all these transmission threads, I noticed a pattern.
So many people is getting new trannys! It's unbelievable. It looks like it's as normal as buy lowering springs and saying, "yeah, i just lowered mine a week ago, etc etc"
Unreal.....
