New problem -- P0128.... chime in

The car threw the P0128 code twice apparently, on my way back from the recent trip. Its description is as follows: Range/Performance Problem In Thermostat.

I'm running a Spoon t-stat, which was installed back in October. Even in 10-degree weather, I didn't have a problem with the thermostat, but for some reason, it happened twice on this trip.

So is anybody familiar with this error code? What's the proper course of action? I'm thinking it's probably a hiccup from going on a long trip, and the constant change of elevation and temperature (as much as 15 degrees of ambient temp and 9,000 feet of elevation change in as little as 10 minutes sometimes). The MAP sensor low input code was also triggered, so I'm thinking it was probably the same conditions that triggered these error codes.

Inputs/advice welcome.

when you get a DTC P0128 usually happen when your termostat opens before your engine reach an expected temp range or it opens too late after you passed the expected temp range.

This is usually cause by either a bad termostat or a bad engine temp sensor.
first I'll check your termostat make sure is not stuck open, I seen this happen alot with Integra. If is stuck open replace the stat

do you know what the spec of your spoon t-stat, most performance t-stat usually open at a lower temp them OEM t-stat?

if you know the spec of your spoon t-stat, take your t-stat out boil the t-stat with water and a thermometer check and see at what temp the t-stat pop open, make sure it is within the spoon specify range. if is not replace the stat. (let me know if you need the OEM spec)

As for checking the ECT sensor is a little harder to check, you will need a scan tools that will display live data and someting to check the temp of your engine. (If you have one let me know I'll update the posting on how to check this)
